(109,031 posts)in caucuses, which benefit a different kind of candidate because of substantially lower turnout than primaries.
Two years ago we only had 4.5% turnout in our caucuses. Primaries make it possible for many more to vote.
Good for New York, encouraging everyone to vote!

(9,527 posts)Political analysts say passion and organization are key to caucus wins and Obama has them in greater measure. "He's got both an army of campaign workers and an operatic presentation" that excites people, says Lawrence Jacobs, director of the Center for the Study of Politics and Governance at the University of Minnesota. "It's a very potent, very unusual combination."

(4,794 posts)It holds its state primaries in September, in the midterm federal election year. (NYC holds its primaries/election in the year between the presidential election and midterms. The primaries are also in September.)
I've already voted 3 times this year, since we had a special election in my election district earlier.

We've always hoped for a large turnout in the past.

A large turnout is good for democracy, but doesn't always benefit individual candidates -- especially GOP candidates.

And not a good thing for Dems to wish for. High turnout is in our best interests as it means we're getting the vote out.
She made a name for herself in politics. She could ruin it with these silly pronouncements.

(81,923 posts)There were lots of people that voted for Teachout, Biaggi, etc and Cuomo. I don't think most NYers are suicidal enough to put someone like Nixon in charge.

(5,914 posts)You would think we would have learned our fucking lesson by now.
If Nixon wants a new career in politics, let her run for city council. Then mayor, state legislature, etc., etc. You know, the same way that people who actually know what they're doing do it.

If you sound like GOP trash you didnt deserve votes.

(50,346 posts)High turnout is good. In this case it's amazing given it was a primary vote not the actual midterm. Cynthia Nixon needs to suck it up. Sometimes you lose.
