the political system just crazy like this. I was born in the 1970s so maybe this type of election has happened before where one candidate just walks in so easily to a win.
This just makes me uneasy for some reason and I guess I haven't seen anything as bad as Dole going up against Clinton.

(11,464 posts)LBJ in 1964 winning election so easily against Goldwater (1964 was very much like now in some ways with the ultra-right extremists so happy w/ Goldwater, and the mass public quickly giving LBJ the ultra-size win that led to him being able to sign the Civil Rights/Voting right laws
1972 Nixon vs. McGovern also comes to mind, in that as hopeful as we all were with McGovern, we all had to know that he didn't stand a chance in hell in the election and Nixon creamed him.(especially after Eagleton went down).
Now just get everyone to vote, and give Obama that mandate, and coattails so that the Dems keep the senate and take back the house
and then in every state thereafter, vote a democrat governor in, and these draconian extremists on the right out of office.

(32,139 posts)to make sure the public welcomes, rather than revolts against, new rounds of austerity and cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security....the traditional Third Rail of American politics.
They know Romney can't win. They know Ryan can't win.
The purpose of Ryan is to fill the election season with horror stories of what his budget would do to us, so that when Obama is reelected, the country welcomes and embraces the planned bipartisan Deficit Commission's Grand Bargain II as a humane, even generous, plan.
We have to keep in mind what the real goal is. They want to ease us into austerity, and they fear public revolt more than anything else.

He has leaped to the extreme far right, and the choice is really about social security, medicare, healthcare, and the supreme court

(31,820 posts)And she thinks - per a telephone conversation last night - that Obama needs to release the dogs. She too brought up LBJ and Goldwater . . . And she made the point about LBJ releasing the dogs. The dogs were a little commercial about an A Bomb.
And she's a dyed in the wool progressive and liberal, as were her parents. The woman worships at the altar of FDR. she thinks it's 1936 again - but that her "son" (there's some family dynamic in our family that makes Obama extremely relatable to this 64 year old rich white woman ) needs to go icy cold and venal in telling the truth about the opposition.
It's about hammering home the truth in a way that shows America just how cold and callous Romney and "Queen Ann" as she calls her - are.
And not intending to start a generation war (I always take the side of the Boomers even though I'm X anyways) - we need to be paying attention to our progressive and liberal ones at DU and in real life - they've seen this win before. And their parents were able to provide for them and give them a decent life because of the win before they were born - in 1936.
Go vicious Obama/ Biden. And all they have to do to be vicious is point out that Romney/Ryan want us all to die quickly.
