During the funeral of a soul music icon who died of pancreatic cancer, another Detroit singing legend revealed Thursday she also suffers from the same illness.

While attending services for Aretha Franklin at Greater Grace Temple in Detroit, fellow recording artist Gladys Knight, 74, told WDIV (Channel 4) Thursday she has pancreatic cancer.

It was unclear how long ago Knight, a seven-time Grammy Award winner, was diagnosed with the cancer.

WDIV, a local television station in Detroit, Michigan, reported that Knight said she had “the same illness” as Franklin while attending the Queen of Soul’s service at Greater Grace Temple on Thursday, The Detroit News reports. The singer did not disclose when she was diagnosed with the illness.

However, in a statement to Rolling Stone, Knight’s rep Jay Schwartz denied that the singer had the disease. “Gladys does not have pancreatic cancer,” Schwartz confirmed. “She is fine!”

In a statement to Rolling Stone via Schwartz, Knight cleared up the miscommunication. “I’d like to clarify that Aretha and I discussed both of us having cancer, mine was stage 1 breast cancer and hers was pancreatic,” she said. “Due to early detection, I am cancer-free and grateful for that. It is unfortunate that on a day we should be celebrating Aretha’s life and massive contribution to our world, a reporter who did not relay accurate information has missed the message. I send my love to the entire Franklin family and my gratitude to them for sharing such an extraordinary person with us.”

5. I don't know it is coincidental but I worked for this guy who went on the Atkins diet

He ate beef and a lot of bacon and died of pancreatic cancer. Another guy I knew died of the same cancer and his wife told me he ate a lot of beef and bacon also. My other co worker at the time was on the diet a week and gave up because he was getting sick from it. Had lunch with the guy recently and he told me he thought the excess of beef and bacon was the cause of my old bosses passing.

at the end of one of her Las Vegas concerts. That was 30 years ago when she was at the peak of her fabulous career. We found her to be incredibly warm and genuine.

13. Gladys Knight spokesperson denies cancer report: 'She's healthy'

Several media organizations reported on Friday reported that Gladys Knight revealed at Aretha Franklin's funeral that she also has pancreatic cancer.

The singer's spokesperson, however, told the Free Press that is not the case.

"She's healthy. Someone must have misinterpreted," said Javier Delgado, a publicist with JDS PR, which represents the onetime Motown star.

Knight is in town for Franklin's funeral. Franklin died Aug. 16 of pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors. She was 76.”

"We shared the fact that we had the same disease," the seven-time Grammy Award winner said during a live broadcast with the TV station.

Javier Delgado, her publicist, said she does not have cancer and he was not sure what she meant by the comments in the broadcast.

An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated Knight has pancreatic cancer.

When asked what Knight meant by her remark about sharing the same disease, Delgado said: “I’m not sure. Maybe she meant she feels her pain. But she does not have cancer.”
