by Amy Russo | Aug 30th, 2018, 7:15 pm
There appears to be no love lost between Glenn Greenwald and MSNBC. The investigative reporter has been racking up quite a few appearances on Fox News lately and is claiming hes been banned from Rachel Maddows show.
Hes also refusing to sit on the sidelines in the meantime.
Tensions reached a breaking point last year, Greenwald told Observer, suggesting he was blacklisted from the network as a consequence of his harsh criticism of the obsession of MSNBC generally, and Maddow specifically, with the Russia story, as well as their numerous errors and reckless speculation.
He echoed that same message in a lengthy HuffPost interview published Thursday, saying hes never been invited by Maddow to discuss the controversy over U.S.-Russia relations, a matter on which hes a known skeptic, straying from traditional leftist views on the situation.

(26,060 posts)MSNBC had the sense to keep him off their network. He's nothing but Russian compromised crap so I don't care what he has to say. He obviously isn't being missed by anyone watching MSNBC so looks to me like a mutual disdain society. Anyone who wants to see him knows where to find him - on trump state tv.

(108,977 posts)got fooled by him a few years ago, but most have figured him out in the meantime.
By the way, the article is wrong to refer to him as a leftist. He isn't a leftist, he's a libertarian. Two very different things. Libertarians are against Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, etc. They're not progressive. Their economic views are far right wing.

(6,709 posts)I think there are a LOT of reasons Rump "won" and Russia was only one of them. I also think that there are a LOT of issues that could be and should be addressed where Ds have a strong upper hand, like corruption. Like healthcare. Like increasing monopolization and how that affects wages. Like voter suppression and the new Jim Crow. Like climate change and care for the environment and how that affects all of us. Rachel is extremely smart and talented at connecting the dots and there are a lot of dots out there.

(10,173 posts)She's also talked about Scott Pruitt and other corruption under this administration.
I agree with you that there hasn't been enough talk about Voter Suppression ( neither Gerrymandering) but Donald Trump being part of a nexus of international oligarchs who launder money and do Putin's bidding - like undermining Western Democracies - would interest Glenn if he didn't have a dog in the fight. This administration's capitulation to Putin's aims through its disregard for allies and trade partners are things to talk about - both have real, dire consequences.
And when has discussion of beneficial policies been a driving force of Cable News Ratings? 2016 was a year where policy talk was steadfastly ignored.
What Russiagate has done is expose Greenwald for the massive hypocrite he's always been. On top of his shifting goalposts about Russiagate, his defense of Don Jr over emails which showed an enthusiasm on the part of the Trump campaign to get "dirt" on Clinton was hilarious since he happily purveyed and helped weaponize uncurated leaked emails during the election.
He's hot under the collar about Democrats not focusing on real issues when every Democrat running in midterms has talked about "real issues". Throughout 2016 he himself didn't much care about issues with his sensationalist terrible takes. He tried to justify his obsession with Hillary by claiming it was his journalistic duty to hold the powerful accountable, but now holding Trump accountable is some liberal deep state attempt to undo a Trump Presidency.
Greenwald's quandary is he can't sell himself as some freedom fighter while also being an Oligarch's useful idiot. And that's on him.

(6,709 posts)Have a good day.
But just as an aside: I don't judge quality or importance of news by the driving force of cable news ratings. But if I did, I'd look at what the people viewed as most important and wanted to discuss.

(10,173 posts)It's a relevant topic, it's serious - if people think it's trivial they should provide solid reasons why ( They don't)
The criticism that she talks too much about Russia has been there since post-election. These critics have had to eat their words, except Glenn who won't ever because he's shameless.

(58,724 posts)He seems to find Clinton and Obama to be worse than Trump with respect to the issues he is interested in. Or at least, basically the same, in his view.
It's also a good interview for anyone who wants confirmation that Glenn is a pompous ass.

(60,536 posts)particularly the first sentence of the fourth paragraph, would see the link and could proceed to that site to read the interview. Likewise, hit the link in the first sentence of the third paragraph, go to the Observer, and read more about how Greenwald feels about his alleged banning. Of course, in your case, I'm probably preaching to the choir, you've undoubtedly read the Observer article.

There is no one who's done more in main stream media to make sure we don't lose sight of what's really going on. All done in a clean, cogent, understandable manner. Never kick Rachel...ever. (9,600 posts)If Glenn Greenwald really was a progressive democratic supporter he would go onto FOX News and say he was for Obama Care, Gay Rights, Women have a right to equal pay, etc. Instead he attacks Democratic politicians. No Glenn Greenwald you belong on FOX News where you can preach to the Donald Trump faithful how bad the Democratic Party is.
