Now, of course, I think Rencie is full of shit and I'm all for getting that 63% even higher, but he didn't say that the people holding that opinion are ridiculous, but that there opinion on this matter is. There really wasn't any need to put words in his mouth when what he said was quite bad enough.

...calling the issue "ridiculous" in response to a question about the 63 percent who are demanding Mitt release his tax returns (the issue), then he is saying that the 63 percent are making a "ridiculous" demand.
I find the attempt at nuance over this to be quite silly. The OP makes a valid extrapolation.
