On NBC Insulin $1300 Per Month/Critical Medication Not Affordable For Many. Overpriced.

Elly Lilli is probably gouging on insulin and now many patients cannot afford it. Many diabetics are under dosing to save money and some are dying because of it. Of curse the GOP will do nothing to address this life threatening issue. Millions of patients need this medication or they will just die. Period.

I will bet that profit on it is 10,000%. This situation is unacceptable. Many children are as risk who are type 1 diabetic because their bodies make NO insulin. It would be just about instant death without insulin.

Something is radically wrong here. I am diabetic but do not need it yet.

diabetes 2 is becoming epidemic. My 60's something doctor was told in medical school that it would be very rare for them to see cases of diabetes.
Now it is a cash cow for pharma.

4. $1300 per month is a bit more than a third of my income.

I live reasonably well, but there is no way I could possibly afford that. It's beyond shocking.

I'm retired. Social Security is about a third of my income (which is what it's intended to be), but I don't have a lot left over after my basic expenses: mortgage, utilities, food, and set-asides for various other expenses, like shampoo and deodorant, going out once a week or so. I feel as if I have a pretty good life, but I don't have to cough up $1300 a month for a vital medication.

Periodically I read stuff (here and elsewhere) of people paying $1500 or more per month for health insurance. I can't even imagine. Okay, so my income is below the national average, but even so, that's a ridiculous amount to spend. Unless it's only 10% of income (which wouldn't be a bad amount, ten percent of income for health insurance. I'd go for that) and I certainly wouldn't be complaining if in had $15000 per month. Sigh.

So many basic things should be free, or close to free. Such as insulin for a diabetic. And I don't give a flying fuck if you're diabetic because you drank two liters of a sugared soft drink for ten years and thought that was normal. Oh, and while I'm as rabid an anti-smoker as you'd never want to meet, I likewise don't give a flying fuck if your COPD is from the smoking. You, and the diabetic, and everyone else should get all of your basic health care and meds for free. Or very close to it. I don't care if I have to pay somewhat higher taxes for your supposed carelessness about health related things. I might have a genetic thing that's expensive. I might develop some disease that costs a lot to treat. As far as I'm concerned we're all in this together.

(Climbs back down off the soap box.)

7. One Of The Factors Of Sugared Beverages Is The Switch To High Fructose Corn Syrup.

I drank a lot of sugared sodas in my youth and adulthood So did a lot of other people. I do not remember diabetes being as epidemic as it is now. I was diagnosed in 2003 and still do diet and pills. Though insulin might be in my future.

Back in the "good old days" sugar was the primary source of sweetening things. I believe that the switch to high fructose corn syrup has been a key factor. And it is in more than beverages. It is in just about everything now. And I also believe that it is one cause of the epidemic.

Plus one thing that the health care industry and food industry does NOT address is the fact that even healthy people with no family history should limit their carb intake daily ALL their lives. I believe the population takes in too many carbs daily. For example I counted carbs on a usual meal at a fast food place and it added up to 300 or 400 carbs in one meal. A diabetic normally can take only abut 240 carbs a day.

And I know from watching people that I could count some meals where over 500 or 600 carbs would be consumed. High carb rates send the pancreas into super overdrive. Over time super carving could take its toll.

Carelessness is a factor but it is not the only cause. The GOP uses the meme of carelessness to argue FOR denying care. Diabetes is like any disease you can get it even with being careful about your health.

and I got type 2 diabetes. I never cared much for sugary drinks, although my 3 brothers did and drowned themselves in them for decades, we're all over 60 now and I'm the only diabetic.

My grandfather, who was a doctor and a diabetic himself started telling me when I was just 9 or 10 years old "you need to check yourself for diabetes when you grow up" and sure enough, I got adult onset diabetes. He was a very practiced and wise diagnostician.

It's the Republican wet dream.
I've had to shoot insulin for quite a while as my diabetes progressed, but now that Medicare paid for a $25,000 operation for me with NO Co-Pay (yes, miracles DO happen), and a private room in plush Huntington Hospital to boot, I haven't injected once in the last 4 months and have only taken my oral meds once or twice in that time. Of course I'm also living on only 18 oz. of mostly protein per day!

The math on health care is mind bending. My insurance WILL NOT PAY for my glucose test strips (which are expensive) but WILL pay for a massive operation???

I don't get it but I'm very thankful and my heart goes out to diabetics who are going to suffer even more with the price of insulin going up.

and its looking like the same kgop pattern when in office , and like with the skyrocketing health care costs now, and the skyrocketing energy costs, and soon the tariff causing price increases . All typical under the kgop.

My husband found a Canadian pharmacy to deal with and is only paying a fraction of what he used to pay for insulin. The only down side is they don't ship in summer so you have to make sure to order ahead. One thing Democrats MUST do when we get control again - and we will - is to make sure drugs necessary for life are affordable. Insulin is so cheap to produce it ought to be free.

rest of his life. His current medicine of 21 pills a month costs $10,000. Even with insurance we would be required to pay $800 month. We are fortunate to get a $10,000 grant from a cancer organization to cover the copay. Every year we have to find different organizations because current ones run out of money. It’s insane.
