Nancy Pelosi: "Has anyone asked whatshisname, the one who's head of the Senate?"

Jennifer Bendery @jbendery 21h21 hours ago
Pelosi says some of the attacks on her leadership are sexist and, in classic dismissive Pelosi form, wonders why that guy "whatshisname" who runs the Senate doesn't get called out similarly.

Her aide: "McConnell." 😂

Mainly because she never puts any bill UP FOR A VOTE if she’s not rock-solid certain that it'll pass. That’s a smart Speaker. Smart on the ways of the institution and strategically shrewd as well.

John Boehner made that mistake all the time, and bill after bill after bill faltered - on his watch. So he wound up looking feckless and incompetent as all-get-out.

Nancy Pelosi never made that mistake. So she’s got that double-whammy to carry around with her: effective, AND female.

Gee, and to think we could have had a President like that.

of sexism. She is more accomplished and capable than most men of her tenure, yet so many of them are hell-bent on getting rid of her.

I know why the republicans want to get rid of her - because she is effective. What baffles me is why so many Democrats don't stand behind her. It seems like they are more afraid of what the republicans think of her than they are of losing control of the narrative.

As for Dems who don't stand behind her, I think it's more about wanting the party to do something different that might work more effectively. Right or wrong, they are entitled to that perspective in my view. I share it to a large extent. But I do think Pelosi's been an effective House Dem leader/speaker and would be happy with her in the speaker's role again.

our enemies shows how important she is in many ways, not just her competence. Our opponents within our party are not among those, of course, but their honest opposition is overwhelmed by the toxic demonization and defamation of Nancy.

Nancy, and we, have fantastic enemies!
* The fascists trying to take over our nation,
* the new anti-government centimillionaire and billionaire classes,
* extremist Christian dominionists,
* the hatemongering social conservatives who no longer just imagine they loathe everything liberal,
* Russia, and
* any racist and misogynistic opposition not already covered.

We really, really need to be proud of them. We, and Nancy, have truly earned their fear and enmity by being the huge barrier to their success.

We couldn't have gotten a majority vote in the House OR a 2/3 vote in the Senate to convict. Pelosi remembers, unlike some DUers, that the failed impeachment attempt on Bill Clinton merely made him more popular and strengthened him in the rest of his Presidency.

Even in the extremely unlikely event that the GOP allowed a vote, we would have lost it. And then DT would have been inoculated against any further attempts at impeachment.

is that the anti-Nancy Pelosi posts often are followed by #walkaway. This is what I found when I looked it up at the time: "If the reporting of several leading conservative sites are too be believed, yes, the left got a lot smaller under the so-called #WalkAway movement." I believe that there is a movement in trumpland to try to discredit Nancy. I know what happened with Al Franken, and I will not fall for that type of attack ever again. I may be suspicious, but we would be crazy to sacrifice another Democratic leader, especially one of Nancy Pelosi caliber to the repubs - again.

Pelosi has done a terrific job. She rightly earned that position and has done it honor. And not 'as a woman' but as a person.

But at the same time, she should step down to signal a new era for the Democratic party. There may be sexism at play from the Republipukes end, but that isn't the case for those from our side suggesting she step down.

The closest thing I can relate it to is a sports team changing a coach after a period of losing...EVEN THOUGH THAT COACH MAY BE A FINE COACH, and respected by his or her peers. That the act of shaking things up, making the players realize things are serious and that they could be next, waking up the team that way, can yield a big boost of energy and a renewed sense of determination to win once a new coach is hired. Also it can draw new fans to the team (voters) who interpret it as a positive, dare I say progressive, act.
