running ads about her and the MSM is STILL asking anyone with a pulse if she's a liability.
So can we stop already with the "it's fine for Dems to distance themselves from Pelosi because it takes the issue off the table" excuses for playing right into the GOP's hands?

(35,454 posts)beat up one of the most successful leaders the Dems have/had. Raises buckets of money for them...over 600 Mil. They don't do this to Con men leaders. What if the Dems refused to aid the Cons in their distraction meme?

This is the EXACT same shit that went on with Hillary... "she has too much 'baggage' because the misogynist right wingers hate her"... duh that means she's doing shit right!

(24,633 posts)It's the republicans' job to bash the opposition...what excuse do the Democrats have? "The republicans made me do it?" Are they still in first grade?

(56,829 posts)Nobody talks about Steny Hoyer stepping down, and he's a year older than Pelosi. Personally, I think if anybody in the Dem leadership steps down in the House, it should be him. Not that he's terrible, just to get somebody younger in leadership.
I know next to nothing about Linda Sanchez and Ben Ray Lujan, the next two below Crowley.

(63,221 posts)He nailed it. The only thing wrong with Nancy Pelosi is that she is a Democrat and she's a woman. It amazes me how they are able to demonize perfectly competent, successful Democrats while somehow avoiding criticism of the worst of their own.

(94,880 posts)...the bottom line is that there's a growing number of people in the Caucus (and among the candidates I've talked to) that have publicly stated the need for new leadership. That's an issue to be addressed.

That they should shut up, sit down, and take up knitting. /sarcasm
Ive yet to hear any Democrat articulate anything but ageism for why she should step aside. Funny how thats never an issue for men.

(14,249 posts)it TOOK A WOMAN 20 plus effing years to get into a position of power!!! And then when she gets there, shes told to step aside for new leadership - which is almost always some big-mouthed guy whos been there 20 minutes, and doesnt have a fraction of her skill, knowledge and experience.

(52,172 posts)as she waited until her children were adults before even running for the House. She didn't run for Congress until she was nearly 50. In contrast Hoyer ran for the Maryland State Senate in 1966 when he was 27. Had she not had to wait for her children to be grown she could have been speaker in her 50's instead of her 60's.

(806 posts)Leader for the Democrats - a little over 21 years for Rayburn vs 16 years at the end of this term for Pelosi. (For the Republicans, only Joseph Martin served longer as Party Leader than Pelosi (20 years until he was ousted in 1958)). The big difference between the two of course is that Rayburn ranks #1 for length of time as Speaker (17 years 53 days) and Pelosi ranks #18 (4 years 1 day).

(14,249 posts)He actually referred to her as the undertow to the Blue Wave.
The GOP creates a false narrative, the media picks it up and hammers Dems with it. But instead of fighting back, Democrats accept and then join in to the narrative. Then the media turns it from a narrative, into THE story.
It is beyond stupid for Democrats to claim they have taken this off the table or diffused it in any way. Theyve given it oxygen and legs and its not going away unless they shut it down NOW.
