(6,864 posts)No offense to Michael Jordan, but corporatist America has always been fond of him and now white supremacists think every AA athlete should model themselves after Jordan, I.e just dribble and sell shoes.

(28,136 posts)I am now seeing that a lot of people didn't get the "Like Mike" reference, which seemed surprising to me, so I'm thinking it's a generational thing.
That "Be Like Mike" ad is still in my head from the 1990s - it was very ubiquitous at the time.

(7,299 posts)Look, the Mike quote is quite straightforward. For years the debate on sports talk has been who is the GOAT (Greatest NBA player of all time). Republicans hate change so they claim it is Michael Jordan. As an aside, these are the same assholes that wont allow Major League Baseball to change with the times. Many other believe that LeBron is the GOAT. All the con was doing was sleighting Lebron by saying that Lebron is not the GOAT, Jordan is.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
