My wife just lost her job at a sub-contractor for Subaru

She is really good at her job. She saves stupid people money. She should have been the last person to be let go. But, their just going to shutter the place. Of course, we have a back up plan. Not our first choice. We are going to home to to Ireland. Our daughter can't even remember the place. 10 years of the American experience has proven to be too much to endure. At least we won't starve. And I won't have to look over my shoulder when I say, "Fuck Trump and the horse he rode in on."

by the the end of The Fairness Doctrine and the dropping of mandatory Civics in public schools (both under Reagan), not to mention the lack of time caused by the fact that many must work two and three jobs, it's hard to be judgemental.

Somewhere decent. Canada has strict immigration laws, so I can't go there. I've never been overseas, so it'd be too expensive to check that out. I don't want to go to a third world country.

At least Ireland is pretty. I love all things Irish. Beautiful country. Not sure how its economy is doing.

My husband lost his last month, along with pretty much everyone that reported to him. He has a green card and we have lived overseas. However, we can't move back as our children are in high school. The education system is too different so we are stuck here until they finish high school.
He's looking for a job, but once you hit a certain age it becomes more difficult. One positive is he has a lot of contacts in his field and is reaching out.
I left my full time job years ago to take care of our children. Trying to get back into the work force with limited skills and education is tough.
Cobra rates are very expensive and the marketplace is even worse. We have savings, but it isn't unlimited.
I don't know what keeps me awake more at night-husband's lack of a job, my inability to find a job to cover our outgoings, healthcare for our child with special needs, and the overall state of our country. I regret moving back to the USA.
I wish you all the best.

LUAS and DART both have pretty good service throughout Dublin and the area. Also, here's a website I visit almost daily. We want to move to Ireland in the future...knock wood. We're in Canada....but we fear the stupidity from down south might creep across our border.

Good luck on your move - you're doing the right thing.

Have a look at

www.daft.ie

And also the government run http://www.propertypriceregister.ie which is a good advance in seeing the actual price a house sold for. I think Daft keeps a record of list price v actual sales price. That will give you a feel for the market.

Sounds like you are renting ? Prices have gone way up because not enough houses are being built, so that's pushing up rentals and sales.

At least the Red Cow roundabout and Newlands Cross bottlenecks have been fixed, so that helps driving in from Kildare.

I have about 100 relatives in Ireland.

No jobs.

Many have left, I know that to be a fact as my niece is now living in Abu Dhabi where she secured a job as an R.N. Reason she left = broke is what she says. I don't know how long she'll be in Abu Dhabi but for a "good while" is what she says. This was last year 2017 in May.

To be fair, Ardfinnan is very close to Cahir, which borders Waterford. Cork isn't too far from Ardfinnan, so I'll overlook your statement.

This country is going down the tubes. I'm glad you have a back up plan. At the rate things are going, it might just be the best thing for you and your family because I think things here are only going to get a lot worse before they get better. Besides, Ireland is beautiful and they seem to be progressing while we are going backward.

Good luck to you and your wife & daughter!

I was in a pub in Galway, and an Irish fellow stopped me and asked me if I was American and proceeded to tell me how much he admired Sarah Palin and how lucky we were to have her running as vice President. I am heartened to know that all the Irish don’t feel the same way. We will miss you here and hope you come by often and tell us how things are going across the pond.
