Faithful Yorkshire Terrier stays by the side of girl, 3, all night after she went missing in a cornfield and helps rescuers find her
The ordeal began around 8:30pm Thursday with a 911 call that three-year-old Remy Elliott wandered away from her home
Missouri State Highway Patrol Sgt. Clark Parrott says a search began that included an airplane, but the girl was not found overnight
More than 100 people joined police in the rescue operation and set out to search a cornfield Friday morning
Just after 8am, search dogs began barking - and a tiny dog started yapping in response Searchers found the girl with her tiny terrier, whose name was later revealed to be Fat Heath
The mother says that she wants to raise awareness in her small community so other parents never have to go through the same experience

(2,050 posts)I've had two and will be going to the animal shelter to find another little buddy sometime soon, I don't care if it's a mixed breed.
People see them and think it's just a little lap dog but they were bred to go down critter holes and get what's down there, they are pretty fearless little dogs.
I know why it stayed with her, they are also a very fierce breed for being so small and usually imprint on one person then never want to leave their side, very faithful.
Both of mine were and my lady friends golden Yorkie starts yowling the moment she leaves his side, you'd think he was in mourning.
They are great dogs, but then again their nickname is "Yorkshire Terrorist"
Terriers are the only type of dog I'll ever add as a family member unless I need to be a foster parent for a bit.

(90,800 posts)Total snuggle bunny.
But I've also witnessed him clearing a fence and treeing a squirrel. When the squirrel jumped limb from limb to get the woodline my terrier mix was in hot pursuit, crashing through the brush and scrub to go after the poor little thing.
I called him to return and he did - but I was so worried he'd have a squirrel in his mouth when he finally got back to me.
He didn't.
But he was still so proud of himself.
