VA-10: Jennifer Wexton wins 10th District Democratic primary
Jennifer Wexton will be the Democratic candidate in one of the top congressional races in the country after winning the six-person primary in the 10th District on Tuesday.
A state senator representing District 33, Wexton had been seen as a frontrunner in the race and was notably the only legislator on the ballot as she secured endorsements from many of her colleagues in Richmond and from local politicians.
I am humbled and honored to have won the support of Democrats here in Virginias 10th Congressional District and to be their nominee against Barbara Comstock, Wexton said.
Comstock fought back a GOP primary challenge from Shak Hill on Tuesday and will be seeking a third term in November.
In speaking to supporters Tuesday night, Wexton said the work is just beginning for her campaign.
For the next five months, my team and I will work tirelessly to reach out to all the people of the 10th Congressional District, she said. Well show them what a real representative will do for them meet with them, listen to them and represent their interests in Congress, not those of the NRA, big corporations and fat cat political donors. I look forward to earning their votes and helping to take our democracy back.
