2. We need to bring back and enforce the "Fairness Doctrine" and end the business model of hate media.

The bottom line is this - the airwaves and digital distribution channels of the country are PUBLIC utilities, period. To allow any group to monopolize and politicize them to a constant drumbeat of slanted (at best) and false (as usual) propaganda bites is damaging to the fabric of society and the health of the nation.

We do not need an "anti-Fox", we need to kill off Fox and any of its malignant off-spring....including efforts to create a liberal "alternative" to it.

Journalism is not meant to be the pursuit of ratings and trapping people into insular, self-reinforcing feedback loops...it is meant to illuminate debate and present the populace with needed facts and information to better self-rule. Democracy without a functioning media is Idiocracy, and we are dangerously close to that now...

7. I struggle with the inverse concept being effective...

The reason why is much like the futility of "debating" a young Earth Creationist or flat-Earth proponent. The "argument" is never on a level field as one side will usually try to make a brick-by-brick explanatory case and the other will simply spend their time throwing the maximum amount of poo on the wall in order to obfuscate the issue and force the rational side into using all of their time refuting nonsense instead of making rational points and arguments.

All in all, it is insanity to not have a standard of truth and facts any longer, and if by inverse of Fox, you mean all truth, all the time instead of all lies all the time, then I would be likely to agree such a thing would be good for the nation...

5. If Dems are in the majority can they do this?

Why haven't they done it before like after the Bush/Gore election and then Obama and Dems had control from 2008-2011?

9. Why did President Obama decide to take single payer off the table even as a negotiating chip?

There are frequently examples of Democrats (by no means an Obama-only phenomena....Clinton did it too, in many ways far more so with "triangulation" and more) beginning arguments or policy debates by first tying one arm behind their back and then using the free arm to fight amongst ourselves first before getting to the real opposition...

Party unity and toeing the line are not hallmarks of the Democratic Party as they are in the GOP. The right wing is obedient and will get in line and vote as they are told. Democrats? Roy Rogers was right!

"Democrats never agree on anything, that's why they're Democrats. If they agreed with each other, they'd be Republicans."

15. In fairness, the threat to the republic and our system that is Trump may spur real action...

If THIS shitshow presidency cannot encourage enough of us Democrats to unite against the common enemy and put in place safe guards that prevent any recurrences, then we may need to spend a very long time in the mirror!

19. I agree, a liberal version of Fox would be a colossal disaster.

Just like our attempts to create liberal alternatives to AM hate radio. The GOP has a monopoly in this area and it won't be knocked down any time soon. Bringing back the Fairness Doctrine would be a definite step in the right direction toward fixing this but right now we don't have a way of getting our message out via mass media, and we won't be changing the minds of the MAGAholes any time soon.
