I used to drive truck and hauled overseas containers. Some shippers would NOT ship if the containers smelled bad. A can of coffee always did the trick. You'll need at least 2lbs of it.

Good luck.

Doctors use it to neutralize the most putrid odors (e.g., urine, shit, vomit).

http://www.amazon.com/OZIUM-SANITIZER-OZM-1-ORIGINAL-SCENT/dp/B000CSWCAG

It has a rather strong smell initially but when it fades, so do the odors.

BTW, we used this to hide our pot smoking in college.

Take a toothbrush, a box of baking soda, a pan of water, and a bright red speedo.

Drive your brother in law to a busy mall marking lot, hand him these items and say "put this on and start scrubbing my car, or you walk home."

Be sure to post the video on youtube.

Jul 2012

If you know anyone who has an ozone generator put it inside the car for a couple of hours, that will be a good start. Then open up all the windows and leave them open for a few days. In the meantime change the interior air filter, if you car has one - something that nearly no one ever does. There are also a few sprays that work to some extent, one that I've tried and seemed to work was called 'Ozonium', and I've read about some cleaner that you squirt into your air ducts that is supposed to work well but you'd have to go searching on that one.

but here is a 'recipe' for febreeze...

This is a recipe that my friend has used and loves! It's just pennies per bottle compared to the over $5 bottle that you can buy in a store!

-1/8 cup fabric softener
-2 Tbs baking soda
-Hot Tap Water to fill up the bottle

Put fabric softener and baking soda in spray bottle. Fill up the rest with hot water. Use like you would Febreeze.

If the trunk has drain plugs, you can remove them and use a little soap and water. As much fresh air as possible. The odor will go away eventually. A woman friend once left 5 lbs of fresh shrimp in my trunk over the weekend in Fl summer, I know what you're dealing with!

Edit: Misread truck in OP as trunk. Removing carpet and using soap and water probably not possible. Instead, reccomend spray n vac foamy carpet cleaner, and an odor absorber. As much fresh air as possible, too. It will go away in a few weeks. Maybe trade vehicles with BIL during that time? Lol!

leave the bag of burgers in there for a few days and after that you'll only smell burgers. After another day the burger smell will disappear. I used this technique to get the pot smell out of my car a bunch in school. It also works on getting the fish smell out of your truck.

When my daughter moved into her first apartment in the Houston area, about five minutes away from my house, she took her cat without using a pet carrier. Well, Mr. Kitty did not like his first car ride, and he spent the ride under the passenger seat, where he peed. We tried everything to get that smell out, and finally gave up. We just rode with all the windows down, even in 100 degree heat, and called that little Honda the "Cat Piss Express"!

Just put the bag on the floor of the car and cut a big X in the bag so it can start absorbing the odor. Leave it in for several days.

We did this when we moved into a house that reeked of rancid curry.
Normally we love Indian food, but the smell was appalling.
It just took a few days for the lime to absorb the smell.

Bonus: you can sprinkle the lime on your lawn afterward.
