Practical question.

All the momentum now is clearly on the side of us who want a gun-free society. In fact, I cannot recall another time during my lifetime when the NRA is not just on the defensive, but actually running scared,.

The question is, should common sense laws be passed to finally help rid society of the plague of gun ownership, how does society go about disarming such a large populace? There are more American gun owners than soldiers in the Chinese army.

People hunt. People target shoot. We're not going to take all the guns. JMHO.

2. It isn't so much about gun ownership as it is the type of guns owned, who owns them

(mentally ill, immature, etc.) and using them to kill human beings.

Certain other countries, especially in Europe, have a lot of hunting and the kinds of guns used for hunting without all the killing. AR-15s and other high capacity guns are not necessary for hunting.

I don't hear people talking about a "gun-free society." If you live out on a farm somewhere you might need a gun. And people can have guns in their homes for self-defense.

That's not what the demonstrations are about. They are about common-sense gun regulation not a gun-free society.

That is my understanding.

If we start talking about a gun free society, we just prove the point the NRA keeps making about us taking all the guns away. This is not the way to go.

5. Common sense gun safety regulations that protect us ALL should be the message ALWAYS

And that's not just 'the face put on it', that should be what we really, in fact, mean. There's really no way to 'disarm everyone', it's not practical from either a constitutional or political standpoint. Basically it ain't happening and all we'd do by saying we want that ... is prove their paranoia about the 'gun grabbers' ... correct.

Don't get me wrong if I could snap my fingers and every gun in the world would suddenly melt into the ether I'd LOVE to do so ... but ... that's not reality.

10. Mentally ill, immature...That's practically every reTHug I've ever met.

It probably wouldn't be legal to just single them out, but disarming them would certainly make society far less violent. In fact, mentally ill reTHugs (is there any other kind?) with guns are probably 95-99% of the problem.

4. I have been around hunters and gun owners my entire life

Never have I been around one I would worry about having a gun. Do not know one who would let an idiot with an AR-15 and a high capacity clip hunt with them or be around them. I do not know what this means, but in my little North Texas Town guns are not treated as toys or masculinity proof for pricks. At least, not that I have seen.

As to your question, ridding idiots of guns will take decades or longer. Go after the ammo. Limit amount that can be bought. Do background checks. Tax it heavily. Listen to Chris Rock.

I do not own a gun and have only owned one - a 22 single shot rifle my dad gave me on my 7th birthday. Guns are repulsive and nauseating, but I do enjoy eating wild game. Venison is about my favorite meat. I hate to hunt. Obviously, I have my own issues, but I always say "The only thing worse than idiots is idiots with guns". I would gladly live in a gun free society. Do not like wild game that much.
