(4,616 posts)As lawless as this administration has been, its a pipe dream to think Trump would let Mueller complete his work and challenge his power. I dont see this happening. My next thought is, what then? 1930s Germany? Our version of the Arab Spring? What?
(I hate this! I want to wake from this nightmare now!!)

"Perhaps most consequential for Robert Muellers investigation, sources said Trump has discussed a plan to fire Attorney General Jeff Sessions. According to two Republicans in regular contact with the White House, there have been talks that Trump could replace Sessions with E.P.A. Administrator Scott Pruitt, who would not be recused from overseeing the Russia probe. Also, as an agency head and former state attorney general, Pruitt would presumably have a good shot at passing a Senate confirmation hearing."
The article goes on about McMaster and Bolton as well.

(15,241 posts)Where does the military stand in the coup? Have they already been co-opted by plants in the last 10-20 years?
Where are the honorable people that govern?
Good question.

(37,648 posts)immediately name Mueller as an Independent Counsel, not under Trump's authority at all.
BUT, he said they'd pass a law restricting the W.H.'s ability to fire Mueller, and they never passed it. So does that mean there was no support for it? I think so. Which means there's no authority for preventing firing Mueller at all, I guess.
We have a situation where the W.H. is corrupt, and a number of Congress people are corrupt loyalists. A coup, sort of. We have only the judiciary to rely on, and many of those are Republican appointees.

(637 posts)trump's greatest danger is letting Mueller finish his work. I've no doubt that trump is guilty on numerous counts. I think he's going to have Mueller fired one way or another and I think he's going to do it soon. Hope I'm wrong but knowing trump, he'll do whatever tisane his own skin.

(37,648 posts)Sessions shouldn't have recused himself. It's not required, so he could un-recuse himself and get involved in the Mueller investigation. Or someone else could be appointed and get involved or fire Mueller. There's no reason for the Mueller investigation to continue, since it hasn't found any collusion.

(19,199 posts)New York, Virginia and who knows what other States. I'm certain Mueller has his bases covered because he knows how shady and lawless this bunch is. Trump, Trump Jr. are toast in New York. Manafort, Page etc. in Virginia.
Mueller is no dummy. I'm sure there are contingency plans in place for this very reason.
At least I hope so. Now it's time for some Democratic "thoughts and prayers".

(14,742 posts)Ari listed a court decision on his show, which prevents a president from firing a special council without cause.
The gop droid he was asking said that it wouldn't be the president if pruit did it. aha. nope, that won't fly.
The real problem isnt pruit firing muehler, it's pruit issuing new guidelines restricting the proobe to specific dates and topics. He also can veto any indictments, and he controls the content and release of any report.
They will basically just cut off the air supply and turn out the lights. Nothing will ever result from the investigation.
Pruit could even write trump a letter of exoneration.

(19,199 posts)I'm sure Trump and his lawyers have explored every avenue to get his ass out of this trouble. There are still that State investigations and AGs though, so all isn't lost. I know the New York AG would LOVE to nail Trump's ass to the wall.

(2,248 posts)I always thought Pruitt was the most asshole-y of the bunch (I can think of a few close seconds). He will have NO qualms taking orders from the President and doing his part to stop everything. And hell do it with that smug F You look he always has on his face.
