General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI have lived in Canonsburg and North Strabane (Washington Co PA) my whole life
...except for 4 years at Pitt.
The only thing Canonsburg has been known nationally for is being the home of Perry Como and Bobby Vinton.
It has been surreal seeing Kasie Hunt reporting from Lamb headquarters literally 500 yards from my house...Seeing Sarris Candies on the news...hearing CNN talking for 15 minutes about 6 precincts in neighboring Peters Township that i can practically walk to.
You all don't understand how non competitive this district has been my whole adult life. Half the time we never even had a Democrat on the ballot.
I have been living in red hell. To think I might be represented in DC by a Democrat, even if only for 9 months, blows my mind.
Blue wave, yinz guys, blue wave.

(17,108 posts)I'm allowing myself to feel hopeful, but I'm not counting on anything 'till it's actually called. It's been stuck at 579 votes for Lamb for awhile now- I was hoping to get to bed early tonight; my plans may change.

(9,313 posts)And I'm guessing there is little doubt that there will be a recount.
If it ends up being a razor thin loss, still good, but a Lamb WIN would really shake things up!
Fingers crossed. For others who want to check in for latest count, here are results reported by PA dept of state:
http://www.electionreturns.pa.gov/Special/OfficeResults?ElectionID=62&ElectionType=S&IsActive=1
And ABC Radio seems to be posting frequent updates. Westmoerland absentees are now reported. Lamb still ahead, but only by 579. Your county should be finished with absentees by tomorrow am, and Greene tomorrow (but not a lot of votes there to worry about). But, provisionals are all still out. Yikes!

P.S. I hope Democratic party monitors are keeping a close eye. In a Republican stronghold, I fear there could be some big thumbs around trying to tip the balance. (Don't need a big conspiracy... just a few rank and file die hards with few scruples in the "right places."

(34,195 posts)I graduated high school in New Kensington, PA (Westmoreland County) back before time began (1964).
I left in the late 60's and it's sad and disappointing to see how so many of my old class mates
became Trump supporters.
Even my siblings who remained earlier became Tea Party folk, and still are.

(16,926 posts)Ken Hi?
Har-Brack here!
Those were the days, weren't they?
I moved from Brackenridge to New Ken in 1970 and was there for 37 years! It's been a long downhill slide for what was once a great town (but the same story can be said for many places here in western PA).

Former officer to release history of New Ken crime
Organized crime can be a compelling subject to explore.
It becomes even more alluring when you're a former police officer, and the organized crime was rooted in the city where you worked.
That's what motivated Dennis Marsili, an author and retired New Kensington police officer, to write his latest book, Little Chicago: A History of Organized Crime in New Kensington, PA.

(34,195 posts)I had left and lived/worked around the country.
With family dying or moving out of state I didn't go back until driving through PA some decades later.
So many empty boarded up and closed store fronts downtown. Empty lots where buildings once stood.
I'm glad I lived there in the early 60's when it was 'alive'.

The only interesting election in Arkansas this year will be the GOP governor's primary in which the "moderate" Republican incumbant is facing the local NRA queen who runs a "Muslim Free" gun range.
