The wife of the man standing trial for killing Trayvon Martin has pleaded not guilty to lying about their finances during his initial bond hearing, USA TODAY's Yamiche Alcindor informs us.
Shellie Zimmerman's new lawyer entered the plea today to the perjury charge, which was filed in June. Her arraignment is scheduled for Tuesday, but the lawyer filed a waiver so she does not have to appear in court.
Shellie Zimmerman was arrested June 12 and jailed briefly in Seminole County before posting a $1,000 bond. The special Florida state attorney prosecuting her husband said the 25-year-old Zimmerman perjured herself before Judge Kenneth Lester at the April 22 bond hearing.
