On Thursday's "Special Report," Krauthammer launched into a rant about Romney's Olympics comment. "It's unbelievable, it's beyond human understanding, it's incomprehensible. I'm out of adjectives," he lamented.

Remember 2008? Dozens of Republicans were flooding out of the basement to run against Clinton. They saw her as a vulnerable, easy target, and they were right - thanks in large part to over a decade of Republican demonization of her, rather than do to any actual weakness as a candidate, mind.

As soon as it became clear Obama had cinched the nomination, all the Republicans dropped out in rapid succession, leaving McCain as the "last man standing." He then spent the rest of the campaign sabotaging himself at every turn.

The same thing happened in '96, with Dole.

These are the "under the bus" candidates, throwaways who aren't supposed to win, because the republicans don't think there's any actual chance of winning the presidency. Why not run the weakest candidate they have, instead of squandering their 2016 prospects early?

The real fight is the Legislature.
