Seriously, most of us don't live in neighborhoods so dangerous that one needs to be armed 24/7.
I have never been that fearful in my life and I'm an anxious person by nature.

We need to quit being so polite and politically correct when it comes to guns.
Call them out...call them names.
The right loves to complain about "political correctness"...so let's cut it - and let them know what people really think.

(33,643 posts)Granted you the narrow leeway option since you didn't actually flame, you're just a smart-ass ... which I appreciate
But I do think you're being a bit extreme labeling EVERYONE in this fashion.
There is at least a LITTLE something to be appreciated about people honestly fighting for 'citizens rights' against unchecked government power.
Even if I personally find gun-humping to be a poor outlet/venue (I'd much rather they picketed for, say, collective bargaining, for example), the 'spirit' involved is not always an outright negative/scary thing like you're declaring it to be here, nor is it indicative of someone ready to snap in anything resembling a 'universal' way as you've portrayed it.
Just my $.02.
Renew Deal
(81,861 posts)And I mean generally. It gets a lot more complicated when we get into specifics. But that church humping of guns is extremist. The NRA should be asked to denounce the entire event.
The problem with people that open carry is that people around them don't know if they are some crazed killer or just an ordinary attention seeker. It shouldn't be up to normal civilian population to have to worry about it.

They just need to start staging protests in open-carry states, and showing up with AR-15's strapped across their backs, in white garb with turbans and signs with pictures of DC politicians of both parties, Trump AND Obama and Hillary, labeling them infidels ...

(81,861 posts)It's terrible for the person scared enough to call the police. It's terrible for the police who are scared themselves. And it's bound to lead to tragedy at some point. It's no way for a civilized society to operate.

(2,120 posts)I'd rather have concealed carry be completely illegal and have
everyone be required to open carry if they want a firearm for
self protection. They would pay some not inconsequential price
for their paranoia in being asked to leave some public places or in
being shunned by others.

(711 posts)I work in a huge urban library in Alabama. The patrons are allowed to carry guns, both open and concealed. The library security guards stand there and check bags every day. No kidding, they are actually checking for food, to make sure homeless folks haven't got food in their bags, because food draws bugs. Don't ya love the Christian states?

(34,172 posts)1. The rural outdoor worker who has a legit need to be able to draw fast to protect themselves or property. The first open carriers I saw were in AZ in the 1980s. They were real cowboys who came into town. They used their revolvers for personal and property protection. They mostly had lever actions in the pick-up trucks, but a few ARs and, surprising to me before I knew much about the rifles, SKSs.
2. The disciplined poltical open carrier. They open carry to demonstrate on behalf of their 2nd Amendment rights and are fairly organized and self-policing. They might be RW militias, new Black Panthers, or open carry organizations, and they might worry folks but they don't short anyone.
3. The suburban or urban carrier who is carrying concealed, but temporarily feels unsafe and untucks their shirt to display holstered handguns. I see this at ATM and gas stations in my small southern city. There aren't many of these but there have been cases where carriers unholstered and/or shot without justification but not often.
4. The eff-you because I can yahoo. They show up at various places to demonstrate, look unsafe, carry unsafe, and look disorganized. These are the ones that are most worrisome to me, but I can't say that I've heard of very many problems.
YMMV
