Boeing reached a deal on the new AF-1 planes. Price tag is $3.9 billion and we all remember the grandstanding by the buffoon when the cost was over $4 billion and we heard "Cancel the order". (Or at least read the stupid tweet.)
We'll be hearing about how much money was saved and what a great deal was made and blah, blah, blah.
$3.9 billion for 2 airplanes?

But it was of course total bullshit as its obvious he spends more on golf trips than most family's make in their entire lives, it was just another ploy to fool the rubes.

(65,013 posts)The budget estimate was something over $4 billion. Boeing was going to do it for $3.9 billion anyway. Sort of the "jobs in Indiana" debacle.
Still, $3.9 billion for two airplanes?

(2,050 posts)From what I remember, built right before Clinton was elected.
They had an ungodly amount of wiring in them something like many miles of it, my best friend works for Boeing building wiring harnesses in Everett and he said they were extremely labor intensive.
The new planes are so much more high tech and they have systems we will never know about, I think the existing planes even have chaff and air to air missiles on board along with who knows what else in the electronics suite.
But yeah that 3.9 billion sure would be nice to give to the homeless and children's programs wouldn't it?.
Hillary would have been so much better for the world but we'll get the world we want back soon, and I hope forever.

(14,531 posts)We are now paying MORE than the original contract.
The Air Force has published a budgetary document that says research, development, testing and evaluation of the new Air Force Ones -- officially known as the Presidential Aircraft Recapitalization -- will cost $2.87 billion between fiscal years 2015 and 2021. However, the project is expected to extend beyond 2021, and experts told PolitiFact it would likely require another $1 billion in subsequent years to finish the job.
The Teal Group has estimated that the project will require an additional $858 million between fiscal years 2022 and 2026.
That adds up to a grand total of $3.73 billion over 12 years. Thats not "more than $4 billion," as Trump said, but its reasonably close -- and its no secret that defense contracts have a history of escalating in cost over time. Already, in response to inquiries from the media after Trumps tweet, an Air Force spokesman told reporters to expect the interim $2.7 billion figure "to change as the program matures."
