Student walkout: Gun violence protests at schools today (Ausbury Park, NJ - 02/21/18)
Students at some Shore high schools will walk out of their buildings at noon today as part of a nationwide show of solidarity with the students and school staff who were gunned down at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida a week ago.
The Asbury Park Press has learned of such student-led plans at multiple schools in Monmouth and Ocean counties. The Press will provide live coverage where possible.
Shore teens have already begun speaking out against gun violence, inspired by the Parkland shooting survivors who have been mainstays in media coverage since the tragedy. Watch the video above to see Toms River students rally for the cause.
Today's walkouts, like those across the country, are intended to pressure lawmakers into a serious reconsideration of gun control in the wake of America's deadliest school shooting. -
