Why do they always bring up Chicago??

I saw it again today on Facebook.

"We don't need anymore gun laws. Look at Chicago"

Yes, let's look at Chicago. Let's look at that city. It's not an island. It's surrounded by other states. Indiana for one.
Do these people realize we can move freely in this country from state to state?? That means that guns can move freely as well.

But let's get back to Chicago. Is it coded language?? More than likely. How about per capita?? Where does Chicago rank per capita?

https://www.thetrace.org/2016/10/chicago-gun-violence-per-capita-rate/

Chicago Isn’t Even Close to Being the Gun Violence Capital of the United States
More than a dozen cities have higher rates of shootings and homicides.

I'm done with NRA talking points and stupid people. We have a problem in this country. It's time we start trying to fix it.

A few of my suggestions:
1. Tax the hell out of ammunition
2. There should be red flags for people who purchase 100's of rounds of ammunition.
3. Outlaw Bump Stocks
4. More extensive background checks including if you are on a no-fly list.
5. No child should ever use a gun. PERIOD.
6. If you are too young to drink, you are too young to buy a gun.

I don't want to see anymore children dying from gun violence. Heck I don't want to see anyone killed from gun violence.

Sorry if I'm all over the place, but it's been a trying few days here in South Florida.

'Chicago' is also a false comparison fallacy.

Conservatives have nothing constructive to offer, so they engage in failed attempts to deflect.

from this Chicagoan!

The reason this meme plays out is that it is twofold. We are a Democratic city. We are an international city with a culturally diverse populace.

So like a dog whistle to conservatives they hear the word Chicago and it trips off hysteria in their tiny brains.

I travel downstate to our farm in Central IL, and I hear the same crap from my neighbors.

Right after the Vegas mass shooting I said to one of my neighbors who stated that they would never come here cause of the violence. I asked them what they thought of the concert shooting in Chicago. They paused for a moment and were like I don't remember that, and I said yes because it happened in Vegas, NV. They like to vacation in Vegas and like to gamble.... They still went to Vegas anyways.

guns don't kill people, urban minorities do

When you get to the core, that's why gun nuts amass huge collections of powerful weapons - to defend themselves against a "slave uprising"

but it does seem to me that many of these types of gun deaths would be lowered if we ended the drug war. No fighting over territory or killing "snitches".

The ideas you listed seem like at least a start. For number 5 I would add that if your weapon was used by a minor you should be charged. They always seem to call them "accidents" when a kid gets a hold of a gun. That seems harsh, because they just lost a loved one or their loved one harmed someone else, but it could have been avoided.

Obama is a saint and an American hero compared to any POS the GOP has provided in the past 50 years of Republican Presidents. Of course they will attack him (and Bill and Hillary).

They are done, finished. All the money in the world cannot fix the GOP shit-show's reputation and standing.

Chicago was a rough place in the day of the stockyards, it’s a rough place now, and it’ll be a rough place 100 years from now.

The problem is, the GOP uses it as “proof” we need huge numbers of guns. “Your city could turn into Chicago any second!” Thanks to all the fucking guns, it might.
