Trump's Greatest Fear

It must be clear by now that Trump refuses to sign off on Russian sanctions because he would have to acknowledge the possibility that his election is tainted...that his election isn't legitimate. He seems to fear this above all else.

Isn't it a requirement that the President sign off on legislation when that legislation is overwhelmingly approved by the Houses?

law, though there is probably wiggle room built into the bill (I didn't read it).

Obligated to sign off on legislation?--no, he can veto, but a 2/3 majority of house and senate can override.

He can veto anything he wants - but if both houses have voted overwhelmingly for a bill, the president should be aware that his veto can be overridden. In the case of the Russia sanctions, however, although Congress voted overwhelming to impose them and Trump signed the bill, he just isn't doing anything; the sanctions have to be implemented through the State Department, which is part of the executive branch and which generally dances to Trump's tune when it dances at all. Here are some options, most of which probably won't happen. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2018/01/30/even-if-trump-is-blatantly-ignoring-the-russia-sanctions-law-theres-not-a-lot-congress-can-do-about-it/?utm_term=.ec6d3d818536

I'm thinking it might be Congress by means of a writ of mandamus; but even so, this Congress isn't going to do anything to thwart Trump - even make him comply with a law he signed.

but then, perhaps it was theater all along, at least the russian component of the sanctions (i think sanctions against north korea were in there as well, no real controversy there).

i suppose it was easy to figure that donnie could ignore the russian sanctions and maybe figure it wouldn't be a big issue, at least not for republican congresspeople, so no need for them to really return to the issue.

Not that the Deplorables would give a crap...they'd follow their dear leader over a cliff. It'd just be immensely satisfying for the rest of us.

is that we find out he's probably broke, if the Russians didn't have a need to hide their funding, he and his kids wouldn't have a thing right now.

It might actually happen now, and I still don't know why he ran for a President. Like a cockroach asking for a flashlight. Stupid.
