...reality or some other method, which one/ones would you pick?
My first choice would be ski jumping. Those few seconds of soaring and floating look absolutely exhilarating!
Pairs ice skating would be my other choice. To be able to create such beauty must be so satisfying.
No moguls for me - it makes my teeth and knees hurt just to watch.

(23,981 posts)...stationed at KI Sawyer AFB in the upper peninsula of Michigan. We took up cross country skiing. I had no idea that there was any uphill involved, and I remember taking off my skis, waling up the hill, and sobbing in frustration, wondering who the hell thought it was a good idea to try to go uphill with WAXED boards under your feet - NUTSO!!!
I eventually mastered the technique for doing so, but it still makes me cringe when I see long uphill sections in televised competitions.

(38,489 posts)I was actually thinking about that earlier.

(118,651 posts)for the woman's downhill circuit two weeks before. It was at Lake Louise. The hill was so steep in places that I had to slide down it on my ***. The women would have gone off it like a jump at 90 miles an hour. I did it in a very wide slalom. No way will I ever picture myself doing a winter Olympic event again. Those people are nuts.

(24,122 posts)steep narrow trail with boulders on either side... holy crap! Never been so scared in my life!! How I came down that part of the mountain was not even remotely related to skiing!! Haha!!

(118,651 posts)thing without turning. Cray Cray. I knew ski racers in highschool. You knew who they were because their knee braces would rattle as they walked down the hall.

(112,168 posts)As shown by my posts in the Sports Group. I'll have a repertoire of quadruple jumps and dazzling spins including the Biellmann spin. I promise to point my toes too.

(1,387 posts)The prolonged spins (whatever they're called ) alone are jaw-dropping. I couldn't walk let alone skate after trying one of those and I suspect most fighter pilots couldn't either.

(15,682 posts)I don't know bobsled from any of the other races but this was a single athlete on his back going down feet first. The video view was between his feet.
Did you see it? I think it was on Sunday.

(6,709 posts)But single person on back feet first is luge...and I bet that was a wild ride!

(15,682 posts)Right after I posted my reply here I saw Stinky The Clown's post and the first thing he had was a pic of the luge!!!
A wild ride for sure!

(82,849 posts)Flying down the course face first would be a gas. As long as there was no possibility of punching my ticket doing it.

(10,136 posts)nowhere within 2 orders of magnitude of the speeds these guys get, but we used to go down hills head first on our sleds. And the hills were only about 20 feet high, but other than that it was the same, yes?
