Petit-fascist Donald Trump may finally get his very own military parade. At last he will be able to put on a Napoleon costume and parade about under the big top like "Tom Thumb" in P.T. Barnum's circus.

Trump's proposed parade has already been widely criticized because it will be wasteful, embarrassing, and beneath the dignity and honor of the United States military and its service people. Trump is indifferent to those concerns. As a would-be despot, Trump considers a military parade as his personal rite of power. On this point, he is correct. Such displays are expected from an authoritarian. And like his heroes and role models of despotic power, including Vladimir Putin, Saddam Hussein, Turkey's Recep Tayyip Erdogan and China's Xi Jinping, Trump will not be denied his own martial spectacle.

For an authoritarian, a military parade fulfills several roles.

It celebrates and announces the great leader's power by intimidating his foes both international and domestic.

The authoritarian leader is the literal physical embodiment of the State. He imagines himself to be strong and powerful. By implication, the military parade is a public display of that supposed truth.

Because they are "masculine" ideologies, fascism and other types of authoritarian ideologies rely upon and emphasize phallocentric imagery. Donald Trump is obsessed with the size of his penis: He has mentioned his "great" organ many times, both during interviews as well as presidential debates. A military parade is the logical extension of Trump and other right-wing ideologues' obsessions with masculine virility and potency.

1. I am reminded of 2 things

1. NONE of this happens if NOSE HOLDERS would have not held their nose and told everybody they knew how they had to hold their nose

#2...I read something here today about his #'s/votes. Russia did get into our voting data/machines. I truly believe those numbers are fake news and there are more BOTS than supporters. Don't get me wrong...the racists love him, yet that # is distorted.

3. Nope. I believe they just THINK they want an authoritarian in charge.

The reality of that would wear very thin really fast. But they have convinced themselves and have been fed propaganda to believe that all the problems of our country will just go away if we allow our tough leader to have his way. All their biggest fears will be put to rest. They haven’t a real clue of the reality of living in such a society where the authority in charge will make this a Utopia.

If you don’t know history and are not inclined to familiarize yourself with former dictators you may fall for tRump and the line he is feeding you. You will figure it out after it is far too late to stop him. I just hope that those capable of saving us from tRump and his grandiose ideas will spring into action soon. Lots of people think we are invincible and can survive anything but the history books are full of stories of other great civilizations that fell and fell fast. There are no guarantees we’ll survive this.

5. It is the same kind of thinking that convinces them

The US treasury can take in less money in taxes, increase spending and somehow (magically) we will be able to pay our bills. I learned nearly 50 years ago when I first got married that finances don’t work that way. Money comes in, money goes back out. Adjustments to the equation must be made if you want things to balance out. Increase the income or trim the bills. But the math won’t work to cut income, increase spending and then expect things to get paid. Elementary, my dear Watson.
