This will get posted elsewhere, but DU is first. Just finished an hour ago. Pass it on if you like it!
Apologies to The Drifters and George Benson, but it HAD to be done!

(54,386 posts)We knew we wanted to parody that particular song, the only question was which version, Drifters or Benson? The studio wanted the Drifters, but I prevailed and we took the Benson version.

(54,386 posts)We always take our music seriously, and then the animation is what it is. We've been doing this for a while now.
This was our first one, just for comparison's sake, about 12 years ago:
Are the voice and the guit two different people?
We did NOT get George Benson to do this for us. That would have been a little out of our budget!
We found out that Elton John has a house in Atlanta, and we almost asked him if he wanted to the vocal and piano on our latest one "I Guess That's Why He Calls It Fake News," but we were apprehensive that he might nix the project altogether. So we had our George Benson soundalike sing it, and it came out fine. But we are working on a number of others, and we can only do one at a time.
For the "Fake News" soundtrack, you can go here: http://www.jango.com/music/The+Freedom+Toast

Will be sharing this, and the other links, as well, to my fellow cultists
You should remind everyone to click on the actual YouTube link, rate it, etc, for max expo
Fine work!

(54,386 posts)TFT's lead guitar player is a brilliant studio guitarist named Bill Hatcher. He can do jazz, country, rock, pedal steel (you should hear him on our Ted Cruz takedown, "We Don't Buy You" to the tune of Blue Bayou). I don't know why he hangs in Atlanta rather than Muscle Shoals or Nashville, but we're glad he does! I do some of the simpler guitar parts when I'm there (e.g. The Talkin' TSA Blues), but I rarely have time to run off to Atlanta every time I feel like it.
I couldn't believe how well the singer had Benson down. We had him sing the lead on our "I Guess That's Why He Calls It Fake News," too. No one of us can imitate Elton John, but his voice sounded just as good, we thought.
Thanks for the voice of encouragement. We hope to have I'm Running The USA Ha-Ha ("They're Coming To Take Me Away Ha-Ha" done shortly.

(90,690 posts)...but did not realize that you were involved, nor that there were more parodies. Pardon my ignorance, but is this an ongoing project that goes on and on?
Humor is so greatly needed in our times. Have you seen the work of Randy Rainbow?
And about hubby -- after my political baptism in 1968, I knew I could never marry a Republican. The world view, the ethics -- just no.

(54,386 posts)Our "Home On The Range - Bush Version" was our first video.
Other than writing the lyrics and editing the screenplays, I seldom get to participate personally. I'd love to be able to pop over to the studio in Atlanta whenever I like, but it's a 9 hour flight from here, and would sorta interfere with my work schedule (not to mention body clock!).
TFT got started when a couple of us were together over New Year's in South Carolina and thought "what if?" We took the name from the idiot Republican Congress changing "French Toast" to Freedom Toast" to show defiance to the French for not joining our invasion of Iraq. What those morons didn't bother to find out was that "French Toast" is not a dish from France, but rather the creation of a chef whose last name was "French." French Toast has about as much to do with France as does sukiyaki.
Everyone lives in or near Atlanta except me. We took a hiatus during the Obama years because we were rather happy with his presidency. Even the Talking TSA Blues is something I wrote during the Bush years, just never got around to recording it until years later. The Guardian of London asked me/us to something about one of their politicians, and I saw that most members of the British Parliament saw it. That was quite an honor. But now, with the current situation, I got the gang together again for a new round of musical parodies, because it seemed a safer way of expressing our discontent than some of the more drastic measures we would have contemplated if we had been, say, Republicans.
You can find much of our recorded (anti-)Trump songs at http://www.jango.com/music/The+Freedom+Toast
Just click on "The Freedom Toast songs" or look for the ones for which we already did videos on Youtube. Be on the lookout for "I'm Running the U S A Ha-Ha! (They're Coming To Take Me Away Ha HA)." It's in the works!

(54,386 posts)But that would require a budget beyond what we have. The Freedom Toast is really a musical satire project that adds a video now and then.
We WERE pleased with the soundtrack of this one. Our vocalist got George Benson down to the point where some friends asked us how in the world we got him to sing this track for us (I'm sure he has never heard of us).

(59 posts)Is that you doing the vocals? If so, well done. I'm very impressed.
The vocals, the lyrics, the guitar, the animation, all of it was just too perfect.
Love it!

(54,386 posts)The Freedom Toast has a lot of talent, but we all have our little niches. I have done exactly one vocal, and that was on the Talking TSA Blues.
Our guitarist is an Alabama Republican, but he takes it all in stride and has fun with it. He also happens to be VERY good!
Glad you liked it--next one is in the oven.....
