In a sane world, I wouldnt be posting this abut a lifelong Republican (!}, but it actually is the legitimate question. The media will act stunned and generally supportive of Mueller on day 1 with the exception of FNC. But what happens on day 2?
An example is the ACA. We got positive coverage the day it was passed by the House the second time but then it was smeared in the follow-up coverage. Remember? A contrarian example is that the SCOTUS ruling on the ACA in 2012 shellshocked the media and they didnt even try to spin it as anything other than a blockbuster victory for President Obama.
Its just I can sense the media on day 2 after Muellers impeachment referral nitpicking and trying to make it seem like Trump didnt commit any crimes at all even if Mueller outlines 25! The graver threat is probably the media will excuse Trump for obstructing justice if thats all Mueller accuses him of. Russian conspiracy aspects would be far harder for the Media and Trump to spin into good news for Trump on day 2.

(6,916 posts)Best in-depth examination I have seen:

But it doesn't matter what the 35% that support the GOP think. This is a progressive-majority country. The GOP has won only due to voter suppression and low turnout. That is over for 2018. There will be a large blue turnout.

(1,835 posts)I swear Ill go insane and jump off the top of the highest building near me if the media takes a generally skeptical/harsh view of the Mueller results the way they were all for the GOP during the shutdown.

(3,728 posts)but 35% will immediately write it off as fake news witch hunt. You know the drill.

(3,608 posts)country yes. I am hoping that the non believers will be as close to 30% as possible. I do believe in the face of the evidence that some more "normal" or "rational" deplorables will just have to peel away.

(3,515 posts)And he will base his conclusions on that evidence.
Opinions will differ as to whether his conclusions are correct and backed by the evidence.
He will only produce charges that are solidly backed by the evidence. He is, by nature, a moderate and not prone to exaggeration.
He won't make statements that are not backed strongly by the evidence.
We don't know whether he will support impeachment of Trump. We don't know who wil be indicted.
Mueller has documents that tell a story we don't really know.

(1,387 posts)I suspect the majority of Trumpsters will go into "hiding". It'll be tough to turn back the tide of disgrace they'll be confronted with.
Thankfully 60% of Americans already get it.
The media conglomerates will have to be dealt with. They have failed their citizenship tests and we can't let them off the hook. We must demand changes.

(1,459 posts)Prepare for disappointment...
A literal video of Trump fellating Putin and discussing their plans to bring back the USSR would not produce that result.
Be realistic...

(11 posts)The people will believe Mueller. We got cnn, NBC, cbs, etc, etc on our side.

(33,643 posts)Because it's paid for by the Murdoch's, Mercers, Kochs, and Waltons of the world. They happily (for them) 'make money' but even if they weren't directly profitable, they'd be propped up anyway. Money to be made on 'back end' with successful tax cuts and the like.
All the rest are sided with 'whatever generates eyes and clicks' i.e. the 'horse race' and 'controversy'.
The 'liberal' media to the extent it exists consists of a few commentary shows like Joy and Rachel and Lawrence, and 'comedy' like Colbert and Daily Show. And the WaPo and NYT can SOMEWHAT be depended upon to give us straight facts, but both (exactly like ABC, CBS, NBC, etc) feel strangely compelled to let 'the other side tell their story' even when it's completely without factual merit ... just to avoid 'bias' claims.
But those are rare slivers of light, the entire rest of the mainstream media-sphere is Reich-Wing except in the rare case when pushing a liberal angle is a 'money-maker' ... as long as it doesn't financially harm their Ownership in any way.

(3,322 posts)It will be more than Mueller. It will also be State AG's bringing money laundering RICO charges. This will not end pretty for Trump and his deplorables. It will be overwhelming.
