Which of your favourite musician/actor/celebrity is a Trump supporter?
For me personally - it breaks my heart that John Petrucci on Dream Theater is a Trump supporter .. while he isn't a rabid nutjob like Ted Mutant .. the fact that he follows Trump and Gop on Twitter and saying things like " I like him.. let's give me a chance " has soured me on his music.
I wish he the good sense to shut his mouth and not alienate fans like me.

1. I've always hated the fact that James Woods is a right-winger.
He sounds like a real asshole off-screen, but he's always had a twitchy, ingratiating likability on-screen.
I just can't really watch him anymore. |

13. I used to think he was good at playing smarmy assholes.
Now I'm pretty much convinced he wasn't actually playing anything.

2. I'd hope they would see the light but I won't hate them for it
I have a lot of neighbors who are Trumpists, as are a lot of my in-laws. As long as politics isn't discussed, we get along fine. I hope they will wise up someday, but I won't let that disappointment ruin the relationship.
Life is too short to let politics rule my life. Plus I'd be a very lonely person if I shunned every Republican while living in rural PA. |

Maybe they used to be, but to be that ignorant and stupid, just not worthy of my support!

I wonder what happened to her.

6. I'm no longer a fan of any trump/repug supporter. I use to love Eastwood's westerns and...
"Dirty Harry" movies.
No more. Soon as I hear a favorite is a trumper or repug, they're dead to me. |

7. Conservative fans say the same thing about liberal artists.
From where I stand, Petrucci can say whatever he wants... I'll just be over here, listening to Opeth instead.

8. I don't care...
.... About an an entertainers politics. If I like the acting, and like the music, I enjoy it. Their politics have nothing to do with their talent in these fields. I have never understood why anyone would deprive themselves of something they enjoy simply because the entertainers politics do not mirror their own. I don't care for ketchup on french fries, but it doesn't mean I hate french fries. Logic and common sense are big things in my life.

9. I try to avoid the politicals of any artist
I try to avoid the political bent of any artist (unless of course, politics is in fact, part and parcel of their body of work) to better prevent my own biases from bridging the divide between the art and the artist.
If that happens (i.e., I begin to conflate the art and the artist), my biases tend to get the best of me, and I'll begin judging their work on some stance wholly irrelevant to their work. I don't want to dismiss an artist or author (or simply one of their ideas) simply because they hold a position too far to my right or left. If I did, I'd have to reduce the collective works of Aristotle or Euripides as invalid because they believed slavery was part of the natural order of things. So I laugh in ignorant bliss at a Bob Hope Road movie or a Cary Grant slapstick. I watch with apt attention as David Lynch propels his narrative along via emotive reaction rather than dialog. And I blithely argue to myself that I really believe Patricia Heaton did a better job in her work on The Goodbye Girl than Marsha Mason (for the record, yes... I do) If I didn't separate the art from the artist, I'd be a bored, myopic and more thoughtless than otherwise. |

But there is no way in hell I can watch any Tom Cruise movie ... He might be greatest actor for all I care ( and he is not) .. but I refuse to watch a single movie of his

15. I can acknowledge genius, for instance, Picasso was a legitimate genius but he treated women...
horribly.
Being an artist, I sometimes wonder if I could afford one of his works would I buy one, then I remember that some very small prints of his are actually affordable but the more famous ones I can't touch financially so I guess I'm still being principled. Or am I? But screw all of that navel gazing, I'm not spending a dime on the output of any these trumper/repug musicians of actors. I know that for sure. |
