of federal employees their paychecks. Nobody wants it. Holding the government for ransom is something the GOP would do (and did back in 2013). The deal Schumer made was as good as the Dems could get as the minority party and it spares them from getting any blame for a shutdown.

as the minority party. CHIP is funded; the government is reopening; McConnell is on the record agreeing to a DACA bill; and Dems don't get blamed for millions of federal employees going without paychecks. It's not a perfect result but it's as good as we could get. And definitely not a cave.

As other posters have noted, splitting CHIP and DACA works to our advantage. The "they care more about illegal immigrants than they do REAL American children" BS is over. We got one. We will get the other.

Better a shorter agreement to deprive him of his attention for SOTU and Davos.

Not happy here.

McConnell's "promise" on DACA means NOTHING. DACA will be so encumbered with hateful provisions that it is doomed without Dems caving on so many other provisos that completely obliterate ACA or give even more goodies to the fact donors via strategic exemptions here and there.

Then, someday we can get around to the republicans.

That will work.

i think CHIP was going to pass anyway, I am Medicaid caseworker and having been doing KCHIP, Kentucky's program since 2009 and there was never any fear or discussion that we would lose it. If the republicans made CHIP look contentious it was a ruse, and they used it perfectly getting our party to accept a no-gaurantee vote on DACA.

just don't constantly include the entire nation in your "we" statements. At least one person responding to you (and that would be me), does not agree that "we" caved, or that "we" suck at elections.

You don't sound like a fired up Dem, you sound defeatist, and I've learned not to trust continued defeatists statements that come from so called Dems.
