Topic: Gun Control.
Predictably, the guy from Gun Owners of America was talking up the "If only someone had had a gun" narrative, when the Gun Control Guy cited to a NYC Police Department study that indicated that in actual fire fights, Police Officers hit their target about 30% of the time.
The Gun Owner Guy said: (something to the effect of) "Yeah well, if the public were trained ..."
To which Diane said: (something to the effect of) "Come on ... are you saying that the general public will be more accurate than these highly trained Police Officers?"

(1,418 posts)Diane is one of the few people in the media I take sersiously any more.
she had colin powell on her show 7-8 weeks ago, he was hawking his new book.
She asked him some tough questions re: his role in the ridiculous run up to the invasion of
Iraq. powell didn't answer well, IMHO.
as far as the "everyone needs to be armed" philosophy proposed by the gun nuts, glad that was
the response from Diane.
the problem is the discussion should not be about that scenario, but should instead be about the
fact FBI, etc., are surveilling the _wrong_ people (Muslim "extremists" while ignoring U.S.
born terrorists which are crawling out from under rocks w/ increasing frequency-- running amok
and cutting us down like hogs.
had enough yet?

(12,157 posts)My friends and I were really in the reloading and shooting. We spent way too much time at the range. All of us were excellent with rifles-open sights or scopes. Our sharpest sharpshooter was dismal with a shotgun while the rest of us were very good- shooting skeet and trap.
Handguns were another matter. We shot 38 special, 38 super, 9mm and 45 ACP. We were good, I guess, but pistols IMO are really only for fairly close range. The fact that the cops are only 30% does not surprise me.
My other problem with short guns is that people seem unable to stop pointing them at other people when they are handling them. They just don't seem to know where the barrel is pointing even when at themselves.

I guess it's the same government that says I can't smoke pot.

(13,669 posts)she isn't intimidated by her guests, does interviews with people I wouldn't have thought I'd care to know about, and demands that her guests maintain a degree of respect and self-control.
I really enjoy listening to her, sorry I missed todays show- hope to catch it on repeat.
Thanks for the snippet.

She has some of the BEST follow ups but she gets lied to by kkkons every time and the liberal positions always want to be above the fray with conservatives and never straighten the record

(31,849 posts)It drives me nuts when SHE has to be the one challenging conservative inaccuracies when she has a "liberal" right there!
