A new national poll illustrates why President Obamas campaign has put so many resources into attacks on presumtive Republican nominee Mitt Romneys career as CEO of Bain Capital, a private equity firm. Forty percent of voters polled by Democratic-leaning Public Policy Polling said they were less likely to vote for Romney because of his work there, while 17 percent said they were more likey and 40 percent said it didnt make a difference.
The poll also shows voters view Swiss bank accounts in a negative light: 48 percent say they have a unfavorable view of them, while 21 percent have a favorable one and 31 percent are unsure. Romney has been hammered by opponents over reports that he has taken advantage of the tax code, including using offshore bank accounts to shelter assets from taxation. Romney thus far has only released two years of tax returns, and has said hes not enthusiastic to release more.
The poll was sponsored by Daily Kos and the SEIU.

The Reuters poll shows numbers for independents:

But independents, by a margin of 54 to 46, saw Romney's taxes as important in the fight for the White House.

Lack of enthusiasm to comply with simple requests that are routinely adhered to by presidential candidates does not signify to this job interviewer that you'll be very enthusiastic about actually performing the duties required of a President.
Not all of us are looking for someone who can wield a rubber stamp.

(50,332 posts)nevermind two years as the article states. I think it is important to keep making that point. Romney is even hiding a key document from the 2010 return and that should be hammered on as well, imo.

More than a third of U.S. voters want to know more about Mitt Romneys tenure at the private equity firm Bain Capital LLC and how much he paid in taxes, according to a poll released today.
The survey by the Pew Research Center also found that 41 percent of registered voters would like additional information about Romneys one term as governor of Massachusetts, where he signed health-care legislation that helped served as the prototype for the federal plan upheld last month by the U.S. Supreme Court.
Fewer than one in five voters -- 16 percent -- said they wanted to know more about Romneys religion. The presumed Republican presidential nominee is seeking to become the first Mormon to win the White House.

President Barack Obamas campaign has been attacking Romneys decision to limit his tax disclosure to just two years -- the 2010 filing he released earlier this year and 2011 returns he says will be forthcoming when they are ready. Romneys father, George, released 12 years of returns while running for president in 1968. Some Republicans have echoed the Democratic calls for Mitt Romney to release more of his returns.
