He probably says it all the time when he thinks only the right people can hear him. But he's so undisciplined, he's eventually going to slip up and say it in front of someone who's not going to think it's OK.

When do y'all think that will happen? I think it will be within the next 6 months - 3 months if he gets much more spun up than he is now.

Note: I realize that spelling out the word may make some uncomfortable. But I think using "the n-word" euphemism tends to minimize it - sometimes it just needs to be said.

As I noted, spelling out the word in some instances is a choice I’ve made. I understand that it makes some people uncomfortable - I don’t know your race, but in my experience, in general, whites tend to be more uncomfortable with it than blacks.

The word is reprehensible, but it also must be viewed in context. It doesn’t offend me to see it in quotes or to see or hear it when it’s used as part of a discussion - as President Obama did a few years ago to the consternation of many (again, mostly white). I instinctively know the difference between the word being used in a discussion and being used to insult and demean a black person.

The only time I say “n-word” is when talking about the slur with white people in order to keep them from cringing.The black people I know don’t ever use “the n-word” when discussing it amongst ourselves-we just say it. But I’ve chosen to say it when discussing it - and after 5 days of listening to everyone and her mother say “shithole” all over the airwaves, in newspapers, and online, I think we can manage to occasionally survive hearing a racial epithet used in a non-derogatory way.

My good black friends use this word occasionally in their discussions w/ each other...and we've all talked about it. It's acceptable amongst themselves, just like when gays talk amongst themselves and call each other 'you queen!' etc. It totally depends on the group of friends you're with and how the verbiage is used. In these cases there is no intent to harm and all know it.

I just don't like this word period because it's wrong to use. I'm not to hide my distaste for this word. Period.

Did you realize that the "n-word" euphemism only came into vogue in 1995 during the OJ Simpson trial when the media had to report on Mark Furhman's use of racial slurs and the word couldn't be said on television.

There's a difference between black people using the word amongst ourselves in a pejorative way (even jokingly) and using it while discussing the use of the word.

If I'm discussing the use of the word, I'm likely going to say/write it, whether -I'm talking to a white person or a black person. That's not baiting. I assume most intelligent white people are mature enough not to get the vapors when they read the word in quotes and in a context that's clear is not insulting or an attack.

Personally, I applaud your use of the word in your title. Too many people have become desensitized to the word, and, IMO, go overboard with the euphemisms. It is as if they say to themselves, "I can't use the real word, let's see how many times I can use a euphemism...it is almost as good, and I don't get called "racist"."

As to your question, yes, I think a "hot mic" episode is in the near future. The big question is how will reThugs react to it.
