Tue Jan 9, 2018, 07:54 AM

This is absurd.

This country has been forcefully shoved so far right there is no left.

They had to get their shots in on Bernie.

Bernie would have been the best thing to happen to this country.

Polls show the majority want health care.

Polls show the majority want a living wage.

Polls show the majority want the millionaires (like Joe and Mika) and billionaires

to pay more in taxes.

The masses have no voice or representation.

When someone steps forward to address the situation, with the solutions to these

problems, they are immediately labeled as far left.

Joe and Mika continue to say that rural Americans would not vote for Bernie.

I live in rural America.

I supported Bernie.

When he lost the nomination I voted for Hillary.

Joe and Mika are out of touch, just like those they accuse of the same thing.

There is a whole different kind of ugly that would have occurred had Hillary won.

I know people don't get this, but 45 winning was, perhaps temporarily, a bloodless concession to the stupid.

Had she won, people were going to end up dying over the SCJ pick.

In a way, trump winning is a good thing for the country. It is, as you say, a concession to the stupid. However, it has seriously invigorated the left and I expect the next election cycle to be a lot more favorable for us. In the near term we lost, but I think in the next couple of years we will take many steps forward. People are starting to wake up and see how bad the right is for our country. Trump is the exclamation point for that argument.

Had Clinton won, the republicans would have been relentless and she would have had a difficult time getting anything done. The republicans wouldn’t be facing the crisis they are facing and things would look very different for the left and their future.

I would have wet my pants if Sanders had won, but I’d sure sleep better than I do now if Clinton would be sitting in the Oval Office right now. However, the mean time, that is not the case. We need to take advantage of the situation now and make good of it. Highlight how bad the republicans are and invigorate the left.

The key is the country at large WTFU about republicans/conservatism.

We have seen this cycle now for decades.

Clinton, a moderate democrat, gets elected, the right goes insane and sweeps the first wave of off the hook partisans into the House - Nwet, Santorum, ect. in the first mid terms.

We spend the rest of the 90s with Clinton administering the country from a pragmatic, slightly progressive manner with right wing radio and congress being complete jackasses.

The country was burnt out by it all and elected W, frankly, to shut them up. W was a moron, but not a particularly malicious person as an individual. But, 9-11 came and the next de-evolution of the republican party occurred as the threw away all the focus group tested cute, bullshit talking points, got lazy and demanded whatever they wanted to "keep us safe."

W crashed and burned and the country elected a ... Moderate Democrat and ... The right went insane and the country, for not good reason after they been a disaster, gave them the biggest mid terms sweep in modern history to bring in a wave of completely insane loons.

THEN ... Elected 45.

To my point - we have VERY brief flash points where dems have had control, but Rs throw a shit fit, the country and the country indulges them - each time the end result getting worse.

SO ... It does appear that we will get a course correction in November, but recent history indicates it may be one step forward after 5 steps backward AND preceeding god knows what ...

Democrats have provided all the social programs that keep people who are not billionaires afloat. What has the GOP done? Ruined the economy by making the rich richer and the poor poorer. Trump is deregulating clean air, clean water, safe food and everything else that creates a healthy environment. Maybe "poor, rural voters" should check out news sources other than Fox News, Rush and Alex Jones to learn what's really happening in their world.

People like Obama, the Clintons, Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren and Al Franken are distant and aloof elites.

Meanwhile Trump, Paul Ryan, Lindsey Graham, Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, the Koch-brothers and Sheldon Adelson are salt-of-the-earth guys who know what it's like to come home dirty from a long workday.

these people don't realize what the government is doing to help them, but they see that they are benefiting black and brown people that live in the cities, so they think Democrats just care about black and brown people and not rural whites. These people in rural areas don't have many sources of news and Fox News, Rush Limbaugh and others tell them one generally consistent story.

It will take many years and a lot of boots on the ground in these rural areas to overcome these biases - it's not Bernie (or whoever) coming in and giving a speech and then leaving. We need state and local Democratic reps to reach out to these areas on a consistent basis and have interaction with the local people to win them over.

In the meantime, Democrats need to make sure that these black and brown voters in the cities don't see their voting rights curtailed even more and get them to turn out in record numbers.

Those were gutted via the ultimate neoliberal bipartisan legislation. Welfare reform in particular benefited corporations by providing a consistent pool of desperate employees.

Joe actually made a lame attemptesterday, using, of all
people, President Obama. I was so angry & incredulous I thought my head would explode.

I felt like saying, yeah, I guess it IS embarrassing when our party's gracious and brilliant President is sandwiched between Two of your Party's Disgraceful Morons - Trump and Bush, the former now replacing the latter as "Worst President Ever", and that said, you would feel a need to try -- however futilely -- to "balance" things.

As nasty as they are, we need to be stronger and more brutal. Thus far they've succeeded by relying on our weak and forgiving nature, until that changes, look forward to more corporate fascism.

Quit being so nicey-nice, the times for that shit are long gone. It is survival of the fittest, no milquetoast bullshit. Crush 'em.
