Federal authorities wont protect net neutrality, so states want to protect the regulations on their own.
On Wednesday, a California lawmaker introduced a bill that would reinstate net neutrality protections on a local level. The bill comes weeks after the Federal Communications Commission repealed net neutrality rules, which required internet providers to treat all data equally, blocking those ISPs from charging more for specific internet activities, or limiting access to certain websites. The FCCs 3-2 vote to repeal the protections was a major win for telecoms companies, and a blow to consumers and free speech advocates.
But Californias new bill, along with similar proposals in other states, could help keep net neutrality protections in place, if only in piecemeal form.

(3,433 posts)How can any ISP change its long-term pricing and infrastructure strategy today knowing it will be undone in 2 years.

(35,825 posts)They cannot change for a while, as the matter is under litigation, so there will be no changes until those issues are settled.
But your question applies to other matters, too. The blue states are litigating matters that have to do with the new tax plan, as it discriminates against us because our housing is so much more expensive.
How can any business build on anything in this poorly thought out tax plan? If I were a business person, I sure wouldn't be counting on it, and Trump is looking less and less credible by the day, which doesn't help matters any.

(58,773 posts)of course it helps that we recently flipped our State Senate to Dem control, so we have the 3 major branches again.
Repubs may be in trouble here. We have quite a few red counties, but with one resignee already, and recent news that the Repubs are setting up a PAC in another district sounds like they are getting desperate.
