Lots of us tried to warn people this was foolish. But too many progressives refused to come out for Dems in 2010 because they were angry that Obamacare didn't go as far as they wanted (even though it went as far as the president and Dems could push it) and he didn't govern as far to the left as they demanded.

And, as a result, Republicans took back the House and statehouses across the country. And since it was a year ending in zero, the Republicans were then in perfect position both to control the mechanisms of local voting and to gerrymand to their hearts' content, thereby cementing their power even further.

This was completely predictable, but people wouldn't listen because they were so sure THEY knew how to force change and, in their view, supporting Democrats was not the way to do it.

And now we're living with the consequences of their temper tantrum.
