John Dean: Too many Republicans are way beyond vicious they are evil.

@JohnWDeanThe GOP’s idea of a war on poverty is putting poor people in prison. Too many Republicans are way beyond vicious they are evil. Most annoying are those who call themselves Christians.

the sad part is that this is part of a generally disdainful attitude toward the poor that I see in my mentions all the time: the "I got mine, let them take care of themselves and stop taking my money" ethos that feels much broader than just Republican leadership.

2. The phrase "banality of evil comes to mind."

No need for the kind of energy and attention "vicious" suggests when depraved indifference will do as well.

Just talked this morning with a friend of decades, someone in one of our groups. She was a clerk for a major health insurance company until she retired, and in all those years I never asked her about the denial letters she sent out. I knew without asking that she worked from a procedure manual and she was one of the many who carried out the procedures.

"I was just following orders."

I absolutely believe employees should be held civilly and criminally liable for following actionable orders. That would create a reason for refusing that was justifiable by practical, self-interest reasons everyone understands, not just mere principles only some do.

Anyone who deliberately takes away from the poor and middle class to give to the mega-rich is evil.
