Great! This will show the remaining RW Brits what a fucking tool our president is.
Let's see if the PM is a puppet and cowars to Trump or if she is an independent leader.
Harry has made it clear he wants the Obamas at the wedding, so its causing a lot of nervousness, a senior British government source told The Sun. Trump could react very badly if the Obamas get to a royal wedding before he has had a chance to meet the queen.
The tabloids report published on Tuesday states that there are deep fears among senior foreign office officials that a snub of Trump, whom the prince and Markle dislike, could make it impossible for Prime Minister Theresa May to connect with the polarizing president.
Conversations are ongoing about and ministers will eventually have to decide. If the (prime minister) lays down the law, Harry will just have to suck it up, the source told The Sun.

(30,749 posts)invite trump? If it is decided that they cannot have the Obamas, why invite trump? Just invite no one instead of a fake President.

(14,776 posts)Which is what is creating the hub-bub. Obama getting an invite will drive him totally irate.
Let's get some popcorn and hope the happy couple stick by their guns.

(28,941 posts)Weddings are not state affairs, like coronations or royal funerals. State protocol doesn't apply.

(81,350 posts)to be more selective - AND invite or not invite who they wanted. After all, Prince Harry is much farther down in the line of succession. It probably would make more of a difference if it were Will and Kate. There would have been stricter protocols for them regarding invitations to other heads of state and alleged-but-still-illegitimate heads of state (like trump).
If it were me, I wouldnt want those wretched assholes sullying MY special day, either. Besides, trump would want all the attention.

(10,611 posts)They opted to include more members of charities rather than heads of state.
So if they didn't have to fulfill the obligation, Harry and Meghan have no problem.
This has all been RW pot-stirring by Murdoch to create a 'crisis'.
Since this engagement has been groundbreaking in other ways, I'd love it if the Queen would extend the invitation to her friends the Obamas - not that Harry won't proceed with his plan.
And on top of it, I'm sure Harry would secretly love to deck the Dotard for his gross comments about Princess Diana.

(82,849 posts)And for the same reason I wouldn't want the Trumps there, either.
But if the presence of the Obamas triggers all the broflakes in the UK and the USA, all the better.

(26,278 posts)That might be an easier issue to control within the confines of Windsor Castle, but I can't even begin to imagine what the potential for crowds of angry protesters would do to both the event and the surrounding area.
murielm99
(30,749 posts)knows the protocol. This is a state event, and the British have rules for how these things are done.
Yes, the Obamas are private citizens and Harry's personal friends. But trump is a head of state, even if he is widely hated. I think 45 might be better off sending Pence, if his ego will allow it. That is one of the things Vice Presidents do.

(904 posts)William's wedding was because he's the future king but Harry, for all intents and purposes is a private citizen.
That's why (unlike William) Harry doesn't have to invite heads of states etc.

(10,273 posts)And if the goddamned PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED FUCKING STATES can't figure out the difference between official State Business and private matters among private citizens, he and all his snowflake supporters can fuck right off and the PM can damnwell explain it to him.
Now I'd invite the Obamas just on general principal. Fuck Trump.

(2,559 posts)I think the Brits should grow some balls and let Harry and Meghan invite whoever they like.
Or, let them marry in a private ceremony.

(26,582 posts)There were very few heads of state invited to it. I don't believe this wedding is considered a state event either.
sarge43
(28,941 posts)Is the Earl Marshal, duke of Norfolk, in charge of the organizing and protocol? If yes, then it's a state sponsored event. If not, then no it isn't, no matter how lavish.
avebury
(10,952 posts)it would be held in St Paul's or Westminster Abbey and many heads of states would be invited. This will be a smaller wedding then what Prince Charles and Prince William had. The couple should be able to invite whom they want. The Obamas are now private citizens and friends of the Groom. The solution is to not invite any heads of states of any countries. If Trump doesn't like it - tough shit. You can't on the one hand constantly act like the Ugly American and then on the other hand get mad when you don't get invitations to the grownups table.
The majority of Brits don't want Trump visiting their country and the bride and groom don't need anry protests in the streets against Trump ruining their wedding day.

(2,226 posts)the cuff which will hurt the focus on a sacred day. Protesters would be a terrible distraction. No one should be allowed even a chance to ruin it, and we know we cant count on trump to act appropriately, anywhere, no matter how important the occasion. He tries to make everything about him and I dont think he deserves to be given a chance of of doing his usual ego trip. The couple should invite who they want and not invite people they dont like.

I wouldnt want him touching her with those grubby little pussy-grabbing paws, or trying to push himself on her to kiss her as he has already said, on the record, he cant help doing with beautiful women. Keep him AWAY, Harry!!!

(26,278 posts)It's ridiculous to say they can't attend when they actually have a PERSONAL relationship with Harry - and pretty much the rest of the Royals, too. It is an existing relationship that now has zero to do with politics and/or governments. I truly believe they all genuinely like each other.
This is exactly how trump* got to be such a bloated ball of fetid ego - people pandering and catering to his temperment and very damaged self-esteem.

And why would a biracial American female with some brains, and a British prince, who whether you like him or not, has some sense of duty to his country and e.g. has served in the military - why would they want American Psycho at their wedding?!
