My father was just gushing with praise about Trump on the phone to me. UGGHH.
My Dad is Republican and really doesn't like Obama. Sadly I believe race is the ultimate reason. He didn't like Clinton either and always favors Republicans. But he just brought up "did I hear Donald Trump may be running for President" to me on the phone. He was excited because to quote him "we need someone who can run the Goverment like a business".
He is not very politically savvy (obviously) but I fear there are many ignorant people out there like him who think, yeah that's what this country needs to fix everything, a businessman. And the media has built Trump up as such a great businessman.
Interestingly enough my Dad didn't mention Trumps birtherism. I'm not sure if he saw the Today show interview or just read about Trump running but something triggered my Dad bringing Trump up.

4. Remind your father unless he is a multi-millionaire
he's just a peon to Trump--someone to pay miserable wages to. Medicare and Social Security and pensions will be things of the past for sure if Trump is President.

I don't know why working class people think that the billionaires have their best interests at heart. Makes no sense to me.

13. He's not a multimillionaire, but he is retired and has some money. Unfortunately, he has bought into
the lie, that Republicans are better for his money. Sad.
He's 66 years old and grew up in the south and I know racism is sadly part of this. To him the Democratic Party is for "other people".

16. I brought up his going bankrupt several times, his response was that Trump is doing good now. There
no reasoning with my father about Political facts and I am worried that a lot of America is like him.

Too bad the rubes don't know this. The Donald is just in it for the media face time, and I'm sure that behind the scenes he's laughing about the whole thing.

Sorry about your dad...

17. Why don't you remind him we already had a "businessman" in the White House.
And Bush sure did run it like a business. He gave huge bonuses and raises to his cronies and friends, screwed the working guy, ran up a huge deficit, destroyed the country, then got off scot free with a golden parachute.

he lends his name out on a lots of stuff. If he was so wonderful the school that educated him was asking for donations to cover its deficit....he gave them nothing. But he will tout that education.

26. Calling your father a racist seems illogical based on your post
You said:

"My Dad is Republican and really doesn't like Obama. Sadly I believe race is the ultimate reason."

However, in the very next sentence you said:

"He didn't like Clinton either and always favors Republicans."

If your dad always favors Republicans then what leads you to think that, ultimately, the reason he doesn't like Obama is because of his race?

32. Here are some things that businesses do
1) Raise prices
2) Raise salaries
3) Give outlandish bonuses for doing nothing
4) Provide poor service
5) Charge extra for better service
6) Hire family members and pay them more than the previous job holder
7) Set up shell companies (privatize)

He WONT be running.
Rich, successful people don't normally run for president.
The whitehouse isn't lined with gold. He'd never live there.

34. Tell Dad you're glad intelligence isn't inherited
But yeah, if the multiple bankruptcies, serial wives, and general stinkiness of his personal and professional life aren't enough to get Dad off of Mr. Trump, you can always say that you will believe Trump is running for president as soon as he fills out the paperwork, including the financial disclosure forms, to run.

Dad will surely make some kind of uncertain noise, at which point you can assure him that Mr. Trump's vanity run will end and he will suddenly remember that he has, like, a gazillion other things to do in 2012 than run for president. And he especially isn't going to want to fill out a financial disclosure form.
