3. Good God...
Got a link? This is what I've been waiting for.

Say whatever you like, but if the Swiss are suspending their nuclear energy programs, I'm with them!

12. Juniper, you and I rarely agree. But this is one of those times.
I'm with you. The risk is just too great.

4. It makes my stomach sick to see it waft back over the land when it does
So many people already suffering from a natural disaster also having to deal with possible radiation contamination. It tears at a person's heart.

5. Wonder what the radiation levels are.
Looks like a 500 mile long flag waving in the wind.

7. Very low, the further from center it goes the more dispersed it gets.
It's sort of like a spray nozzle. Stand next to it you get soaked, the further away you stand the more spread out the spray gets, until you start getting just a drizzle followed by nothing at all. Or at least nothing you can actually notice. Same thing occurs here, just different scales.

10. Yes, I understand the principle. But, even very far away, localized fallout levels can be
extremely high, as occurred during above-ground testing. There were cases of blue snow (ionizing radiation) in Minnesota after Russian H-bomb blasts in the late 1950s.

13. Those were equivalent to them losing primary containment
if they lose primary containment on any of the three reactors, then it will be time to really worry for the West Coast.

If they got an explosion that places particulates in the jet stream... then even the East Coast may see some crap.

That is why I am keeping my eye on Primary Containment.

Oh and it is already a global disaster.

14. Absolutely agree with everything you're saying.
Let's hope this cools down. I'm worried about the MOX fuel (plutonium) rods in #3. They have a lower melting point, and the heat damage to that reactor appears to be much worse. Vaporized plutonium is really bad for living things.

9. Time distance... it disperses failrly fast
if that projection is right, we will here from the Russians soon though... one of those islands is the tip of the Kuriles if my geography is right.

6. Where's the extended map view that shows the U. S. west coast?
Is the U. S. downwind?

11. The US is downwind
but from time distance and the leak "strength" so far, the danger to the US is negligible...

Now if they lose primary containment... the picture will change.

So do pray, if you do, that they keep primary containment on all reactors.

16. I wonder if Sarah Palin can see the cloud coming in from Russia to Alaska...
Though the nuclear industry probably would pay her not to say that!
