1. I heard the tail end of his response in which he said basically that
Manning is being treated appropriately, he was assured, and that some of this is for Manning's benefit.
I didn't hear the question but when I heard Obama say Manning's name I perked up.

2. Me too. It was basically "nothing to see here, move along"...
..he actually held his head downwards at one point I thought during his response, a subliminal "I'm lying my ass off right now and I can't believe the words coming out of my mouth" maybe? Who knows, all I know is that what I heard was not what candidate Obama would have said.

4. punted.
but what do you expect him to say? The State Dept spokesman is right that the Pentagon is full of knuckle dragging thugs, who are torturing the detainee prior to his trial?

10. Obama dodged answering the question two times! Read it for yourself. You decide.

11. He said he had a conversation with the Pentagon Brass about Manning.
And they assured him, everything was being done 'by the book'. :eyes:

12. The President DID Answer
President Obama DID answer the Bradley Manning question.

He said himself that he though he gave an answer to "the substantive issue".

He asked the Pentagon if everything was OK with Manning, and the Pentagon said, "Why, sure, Mr. President, everything is just fine and dandy".

That answer was good enough for President Obama.

President Obama apparently thinks that answer is good enough for the rest of us, too.

13. Really? So what did President Obama say about P. J. Crowley's statement?

I have read the full text of the question about Crowley and Obama's response.

He dodged answering the very specific and clear question, two times, about Crowley.

Read Obama's answer so that you can correct your mistake.

14. You Must Understand
You must understand.

President Obama replied to the question.

He gave a response to the "substantive issue" that he was asked.

President Obama, you must understand, is the President. And the President, you must understand, is allowed to reply to questions the way he thinks he can reply. He must (you surely understand this) reply to the "substantive issue" being asked, but he is not required (here again, you must understand this) to reply to the exact question he is asked.

If the President were to be required (you understand) to the exact questions he is asked, then he could end up embarrassing himself.

That wouldn't be presidential.

I'm sure you understand.

If not, just keep repeating the following sentence, "The President gave an answer to the substantive issue".
