ABC has a new comedy show coming titled "Good Christian Bitches"
Personally, I think that's about as funny as "Good Jewish Bitches" or "Good Muslim Bitches".

Idiots

1. TLC now has a show about a family of polygamists. It's a wild version of "Can you top this"?

4. If it were any other religion that show would be shut down immediately
well never would have been proposed actually.

I have no favorites in this fight as I am not religious at all. But it's an obvious double standard.

I don't think satirizing the dominant, the main-stream, the popular or the norm is a double-standard, as that is precisely what satire is.

I imagine that were any other religion as dominant in American culture rather than Christianity, it would be the target instead.

10. Sure
go make a show bashing muslims in a predominately muslim nation.

Let me know how that goes.

11. I don't think any type of satire..
I don't think any type of satire has ever gone over too well in government dominated by religion.

Not too sure what that has to do with satirizing religion in the U.S. though...

"Let me know how that goes..." That was, well... clever?

14. You said satirizing the dominate religion
I suggested trying that where the dominate religion was something else.

I don't suppose it would be well accepted there.

Being offensive for the sake of hard hitting commentary is one thing, doing it merely to get headlines is another.

And frankly christian mocking is old news. It's boring. I'm as anti-religious as they come, and get annoyed with many christians on a daily basis. However this kind of thing isn't helping.

20. I would imagine the entire thread is predicated on American television,
I would imagine the entire thread is predicated on American television, yes? Hence, subject-branches would be predicated on the same.

Satire does indeed help... it simply doesn't help those forces, beliefs, and organizations already in dominance...

19. but isn't this part of what we brag about?
What makes us superior to those Muslim countries that censor their media?

And if I read that correctly, the show isn't making fun of Christians, it satirizes the hypocrites who call themselves "Christian" Think Newt, or Vicker

6. If Christians were actually an oppressed minority, which they aren't, then it would be the same
as Muslim/Jewish.

Since however Christians are the majority that are oppressing everyone else, I think it is a non-issue.

Kind of like cracker and the n-word not being the same thing.

not the title, the whole show concept seems already over done. OH well at least it is not another crime investigation show.

8. Bread and circuses
We've already got 24 hour "news" channels with perhaps 15 minutes of real news.

Television is a vast wasteland with precious few oasises.

16. OK, so how is this any different than Big Love on HBO?
Polygamy exists within the FLDS faith. Meddling, gossiping church women exist within the Dallas suburbs.

What's the distinction between the two?

That's two points and a  for you!

Duh, it's the word "bitch" that's causing the issue. That I can get, even if a large chunk of America won't. I thought it was the pointing out of a less than pretty side of a faith. My mistake.
