2. Something strange is happening with internet lately.
Every small business person I've talked with in the last week has had some problems. I wonder if there are ant techies here with ideas about what is happening?

7. Ant techies?
I know I shouldn't be a typo nazi, but the image that one brought into my head made me giggle.

8. I had been having trouble accessing DU for a couple of days now.
When I clicked on the link, I would get an unable to access website error. Hitting the "Try Again" button worked infrequently at best. If you are experiencing something similar to this, then my guess is that you are using the FireFox browser, and that you recently had a software update. What I found was that the most recent update from FireFox causes the windows firewall to remove the FireFox exception. Here's how I remedied the problem (for Windows XP):

Close FireFox Browser
Click on START
Click on CONTROL PANEL
Double click on WINDOWS FIREWALL to open
Click on EXCEPTIONS tab
Scroll down list and verify that the box to the left of FIREFOX is checked. If not, click on the empty box to add a checkmark.
Click OK
Open FireFox
You should now be able to access www.democraticunderground.com

12. I was still getting the access error this morning
until I applied the fix I mentioned above...now all seems to be working fine. Perhaps this fix was only applicable to my circumstances, but I just thought I would post it on the chance that it may help someone else who is experiencing difficulties.

15. Same here.
I couldn't get in for at least 12 hours. I went to bed DU-less, but it was there when I woke this morning.

I though Fatherland Security had blocked the site from me because I asked friends on the east coast to try it and they got in just fine.

13. Probably not. The web sometimes has issues.
Looking for bogeymen every time you can't get on a website is a waste of time. Almost always, it's a much simpler problem that will be resolved.

14. I doubt it. This seems like mundane technical problems.
Generally, deliberate attacks have different patterns.

18. Anonymous is free to do as it wishes. You didn't seriously think they worked for you did you?
Edited on Tue Mar-01-11 11:44 AM by nomb
I've never supported "Anonymous", be they in masks killing those they alone chose were the "bad" guys or behind keyboards.

It will always be that the power to do as one wishes to without oversight or limitation leads inevitably to corruption and excess.

My conscience demands that I rebuke them even, and especially, when they further my own interests. Give me transparent democratic oversight, checks and balances - even though strong men in the shadows could force others to bend to my political will so much faster. I don't find that at all appealing, to "Win" like "Anonymous" is only to "Lose" one's political soul.
