FOX NEWS BOSS ROGER AILES TO BE INDICTED???
Henry Blodget | Feb. 27, 2011, 9:25 AM | 480 |

Last week it was revealed that legendary FOX News boss Roger Ailes allegedly told underling Judith Regan to lie to federal investigators to protect Rudy Giuliani.

Regan reportedly has a tape of the telephone call in which Ailes urged her to do this.

- snip -

And now the scuttlebutt is that Ailes will in fact be indicted.

Here's financial commentator Barry Ritholtz:

Someone I spoke with claimed that Ailes was scheduled to speak at their event in March, but canceled. It appears that Roger’s people, ostensibly using a clause in his contract, said he “cannot appear for legal reasons.”
I asked “What, precisely, does that mean?”
The response: “Roger Ailes will be indicted — probably this week, maybe even Monday.”

The best part of the Ailes story is that NewsCorp paid $10 million to conceal the tape - now it's disclosed by accident: http://is.gd/1D98yy

9. Those numbers strike me as in the appropriate neighborhood!
My own notes (as a chaser) from a March 2010 post on William Black's Top Ten Ways to Crack Down on Corporate Financial Crime.

I consider the matter of a more equal sense of justice a lot lately, these steps might have made a difference earlier, and might going forward, but at the moment, corporations own the very perception of what's legal and remedying that will require something infinitely more drastic. I'm talking mayhem in Manhattan on Monday, 1,000 arrests by noon, charges of racketeering, embezzlement, and fraud. While their still numb come morning, arrest another five hundred, follow that halfsies pattern the rest of the week. Start the following week the same way in D.C.; send a big ass unit to collect those murdering drunken warlord bozos at Blackwater and I'll call that a good start.

Good morning!
:hi:

10. Before, as best I can tell...
"...the Giuliani halo was still strong enough in late 2004 for George W. Bush to nominate Kerik as the replacement for departing Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge. It had begun as Giuliani's idea, of course, and the White House glommed onto it quickly. At first, the pick seemed to confirm nothing so much as Giuliani's rising star in his party's heavens. But within a few days, problems arose. Kerik, White House vetters discovered, had an undocumented nanny. And soon rumors of other, specified blemishes in his past floated around Washington. After an agonizing few days, Kerik withdrew. Giuliani seemed mystified by all the fuss. "Everything seemed pretty normal," Giuliani said that day, "at least by Washington or New York standards."

This is from a Time magazine article published in 2007.

They may be smart people at FoX "News", but they are dumb crooks if the story holds.

Follow unusual appropriations of corporate money and you can often find a crime. So it is with illegal campaign contributions, bribery, extortion, or obstruction of justice. Someone who doesn't want even a misdemeanor conviction for a legal technicality because he doesn't have 100% trust in his employer to take care of him after release will ta;l to the detriment of superiors.

26. =) would be nice, but everyone knows that "evidence" has a Liberal Bias hahaha
and that anyone who would ever allow such things into our most Holy and Sacred Justice System, clearly is a HippyActivist Judge....

The Court has already declared that Faux Noise doesn't have to report facts when they cover a story, but if any of this is linked DIRECTLY to the newsroom (like Ailes gets indited and not a peep out of the on-air staff)is it possible that this would be a GREATGREATGREAT time to make a real push for the reinstatement of the Fairness Doctrine?

63. People do not realize
what a strong instrument for real change, the reinstatement of THE FAIRNESS DOCTRINE could be to our Democracy. Of course, it would have to be applied to cable as well as "airwaves", to keep up with technology.
Goebbels realized (and applied it) how powerful, propaganda could be, especially after the advent of audio/visual films. He truly was visionary in the use of this medium for propagandizing a population.
FDR realized this also, thus the FAIRNESS DOCTRINE was adopted to protect Americans from the exact type of "disinformation" that fox news excretes.
Finally, the ruling elite who controlled Reagan, saw the possibilities if they allowed "the free market"(ruling elite, MIC,etc..) to control the information that the American people had become accustomed to impartially ( mostly, up till then), presenting them with.
If Americans could once again be guaranteed (through rules, laws...) that their teevee news were honest and impartial, the "truth would set them free."
IMO, we would witness the end of "teabaggers, trickle-down, for-profit health insurance....) in a very short period of time.
Candidate Obama had mentioned reinstating The Fairness doctrine, when President Obama completely ignored this possibility, I was so disappointed.

32. the plot thickens
http://www.businessinsider.com/news-corp-statement-on-roger-ailes-judith-regan-2011-2

Now that there's a rumor going around that FOX boss Roger Ailes is going to be indicted for telling underling Judith Regan to lie to federal investigators, it makes sense to take a closer look at what News Corp. has said about the matter.

When the New York Times broke the story last week that Judith Regan had accused Ailes of this--and had a recording of the telephone call to prove it--News Corp. did not deny that it was Ailes on the tape.

Instead, News Corp said the following:

he spokeswoman, Teri Everett, said News Corporation had a letter from Ms. Regan “stating that Mr. Ailes did not intend to influence her with respect to a government investigation.” Ms. Everett added, “The matter is closed.”

It goes on to say, why in the world would they have such a letter? The only possible reason would be that they required it of her as part of the settlement, possibly after she told them about the tape. Why else would she write that? In that case, nobody would believe it, LOL

47. I could be wrong, but a judge or jury would have to decide what Mr. Ailes'
intention was when he said what he said. That would not be for Judith Regan to decide.

Did Ailes try to get her to lie and then News Corp. actually bribed her with a settlement to give News Corp. a letter saying that Ailes did not intend to lie? How strange!

74. So did Bernie Maddoff...
"Justice" is often seen as a social aspect. If the jury sees this him as adverse to society, he's toast...but if they see him as "beneficial", he'll get off.

As far as I can see this person, he's a slug, but I'm not on the jury...in fact, I haven't seen the charges, they may be airtight, or flimsy.

I'd love to see him go to prison but we have to see the charges first to make an informed decision. A lot of people thought Maddoff would walk; well, he did, right through the gate to prison...;)

Despite the $10 million, the tapes still got released.

So, I guess there are a few things money can't buy.

But one thing I'm sure of is that money will buy all the judges and justices in America that you can find.

78.  Not counting my chickens before they are hatched...
we have been down this road before...BP anyone? And I will not pop the cork until this moron has had his final appeal denied, is in prison stripes, has a cell mate named tiny and is not allowed a cell phone.

Until then, this is all smoke and mirrors.

Will he be the next berny maddoff? I seriously doubt it.

You see, with berny, he pissed off the wrong people.

With roger, he pissed off the right people (in the gop view) and got caught. So what will happen? He will get a fine (doubtfully it will have an effect on his bottom line), have his sentence commuted due to "time served", have to do some community work (some underling from his company pose as him), and have to make some sort of public non-apology apology. (criminals need to save face too, you know).

While those on the left will go from cheering, to bewilderment, to disappointment and then join me in my cynical bliss. :)

While you are saying, "javaman! you are sooooo fucking wrong!", keep that in mind when when the next presidential election comes around and the cost to campaign tops a billion dollars.

Who works for whom? They ain't working for us, that is for damn sure.

And a word of advice to roger, try hard not to show your devious smile when you are delivering your non-apology apology, it really make the "little people" think they have just been taken for a ride. Doing that just makes it harder for us to lie to ourselves. Okay?

80. I'd love for this to happen, but we all remember Karl Rove and Plamegate.
So I won't hold my breath until I see it.

81. Hmm, I know I read last week a transcript of the tape wasn't included in the court documents
Even though the tape itself was mentioned several times. Perhaps they can simply bring in the experts who analyzed the tape to testify as to what was on it? Not as solid, but better than nothing.

This does have potential to get interesting that's for sure. :D
