JUDITH REGAN: FOX Boss Roger Ailes Told Me To Lie To The Feds To Protect Rudy Giuliani
Let me vomit first.:puke:

Regan, you may recall, was unceremoniously fired from her job at Harper Collins (owned by News Corp) and in the subsequent lawsuit against them revealed that a "senior executive" at News Corp has asked her to lie, but wouldn't name names. And still hasn't, it should be noted.

The Ailes reveal came yesterday when affidavits filed in a separate lawsuit revealed the exec was Ailes himself.

Even better, it came out as part of a lawsuit filed against Regan by her lawyers during the News Corp case for unlawful termination and were only made public because "a court order sealing them was ever sent to the clerk at State Supreme Court in Manhattan, and the records were placed in the public case file."

Emphasis mine because wow.

Alas, "no transcript of the conversation is included in the court records" though lord knows Media Matters is going to devote every resource they have to finding one.

4. Not a defensive question, merely legal: Is that a crime?
That is, is it a crime to encourage other people to lie to feds?

5. If you are blackmailing someone their job
I would surely think it was a crime.

7. It is crime to lie to the Feds. That's what landed
Martha Stewart in jail, NOT the insider trading charges which were pretty baseless.

I imagine if you told someone to go rob a bank, or murder someone, or beat up your neighbor, you would be committing a crime since those acts are unlawful. So telling someone to commit a crime, especially when you are that person's employer and should they refuse, risk losing their job, seems like a crime to me.

I'm sure the DOJ will be on this right away so not to worry :sarcasm:

12. The NY Times article quotes a Columbia professor who states that such charges are rarely pursued.
Due to the difficulty of getting a conviction and also due to higher priority work.

15. Depending on what Ailes actually said on tape, getting a conviction could...
be a lot less difficult than most conspiracy cases.

But, yeah, given AG Holder's track record, I'm not holding out much hope that this will be prosecuted.

Everyone knows how this game is played.. the authorities have to report it, since she's claiming it..everyone knows that Fox has "a special relationship" with the real ruling party of the nation.

They have spent DECADES, and bazillions of dollars, packing courts with "friendlies" for reasons just like this.. Even when the "other party" ends up temporarily "in charge", they have enough people in high places to protect all their assets.. Judith is not an asset.. Ailes IS!

There will be papers filed, huffing & puffing, and accusations flying around, but in the end it will go away..

Down the line, Judith will get a nice payoff, after she re-evaluates what she "thought" she heard..

Everyone will go on with their lives and no heads will roll
