Libyan Revolution Tweets, Day 6, Part 7 (Richard III in a bad & dangerous way)
Libyan Revolution Tweets, Day 6, Part 7 (Richard III in a bad & dangerous way)

"Let fall thy lance: despair, and die!" - Shakespeare, The Life and Death of Richard the Third, Act 5, Scene III, Bosworth Field

The world’s 100 largest arms dealers, excluding Chinese vendors, sold weapons for $401 billion in 2009, with US vendors remaining in first place

Today's threads: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6

Threads for previous days are in my journal

To make sure the Army doesn't swing the revolution to the people, with the silent complicity of world leaders more concerned about the stability of oil prices than people's lives, Qaddafi has brought in more than 35,000 North African mercenaries specifically from Chad, Nigeria, Guinea and Darfur. There's a Facebook video of a captured mercenary from Chad (Youtube here). Captured mercenaries confessed they were paid between $12,000 - $30,000 each. Today pamphlet ads were found in Nigeria offering them $2000/day for their savage work.

Is Qaddafi the only one paying these mercenaries? Or are EU governments, with their long history of hiring mercenaries, chipping in? I demand to know.

Resigned Interior Minister Abdul Fattah Younis: Gaddafi's men came to shoot me but the bullets missed me. #Libya

Abdul Fattah Younis: I am not a traitor. I was a close friend. I was surprised by what Gaddafi did. I stood by him for many years #Libya

Abdul Fattah Younis: We undertook (the 1969) revolution for the people of Libya, not to turn around & start shooting at them. #Libya

Abdul Fattah Younis: Gaddafi is a stubborn man but its finished. Everything is collapsing now. I am sad for all what has happened. #Libya

Abdul Fattah Younis: I wish Gaddafi had said a prayer for the fallen martyrs rather than his long speech #Libya

Abdul Fattah Younis: Those who shot at me were Gaddafi's men, the bullet missed me but hit one of my relatives. #Libya

Abdul Fattah Younis: The pilots fired at the roofs of the arms depots but they have now become available to all to take. #Libya

Abdul Fattah Younis: I call on the police to continue their work & protect the people who have been living in fear of bombardment #Libya

Abdul Fattah Younis: Even with Gaddafi's mistakes it is unbelievable that he would finally use rockets & bombs against his own people #Libya

Abdul Fattah Younis: All the world human rights organisations sent me letters asking "What is happening in your country?" #Libya

Abdul Fattah Younis: (the bombing of civilians) pained me deeply, it is the main reason I decided to join this revolution. #Libya

Abdul Fattah Younis: I never imagined that we in #Libya would fire machine guns at our people, aiming high up at their chests

Abdul Fattah Younis: Everything has collapsed. The Jamahiriya has collapsed (Gaddafi's adjective for #Libya, means "many people's republic")

Abdul Fattah Younis: The people are now in charge. We have crossed the point of no return now. #Libya (Ends)

46. Al Arabiya interview w\ Abdul Fatah Younis, resigned Interior Minister
Edited on Tue Feb-22-11 04:29 PM by Catherina
SultanAlQassemi Sultan Al Qassemi
General Abdul Fattah Younis now on Al Arabiya TV.

Abdul Fattah Younis: The Libyan people have suffered too long. We have so much oil, the people could have lived as in a 5 star hotel

Al Arabiya asks him :what happened?

Abdul Fattah Younis: There was a crowd of people outside my office, I was with my cousin

Abdul Fattah Younis: A bullet then went next to my right cheek, it hit my cousin who is in a very bad case now. #Libya

Abdul Fattah Younis: Gaddafi, that dirty man, wanted to say that I was killed by protesters so that my tribe, the Obeidat will stand by him

Al Arabiya asks "You were a Minister of Interior but you only choose to speak now?"

Abdul Fattah Younis: I spoke to him 2 weeks before the revolution. I told Gaddafi, we have too many unemployed youth. I want that dirty person who shot my cousin to face justice #Libya

Abdul Fattah Younis: I am not a two-faced man. I worked with Gaddafi for 42 years, I was shocked at his speech today

Abdul Fattah Younis: I wish Gaddafi had instead said a prayer for the fallen youth in his last days in office.

Abdul Fattah Younis: Our plan now it to support the youth in Tripoli so that it is liberated like Benghazi was.

Abdul Fattah Younis: I offer my condolences to the fallen martyrs (reads a statement of support for the youth revolution)

Abdul Fattah Younis: I begged Gaddafi not to send planes, I called him. Now of course we don't speak, I have joined the revolution

Abdul Fattah Younis: Citizens collected weapons & brought them to me, we put them in a massive (airplane) hanger for safekeeping

Abdul Fattah Younis: I gave orders to my men in Benghazi not to shoot at protesters, not one of my men shot at protesters, those who shot...

Abdul Fattah Younis: ...those who shot belong to the Security Battalions. I guarantee that none of my men shot at protesters.

Abdul Fattah Younis: Many tribes pledged to me that they have joined the protesters including the Tuareg (mentioned many other names)

Abdul Fattah Younis: Gaddafi's speech was very clear to any one who has a brain. He is nervous, he is stubborn. He may commit suicide

Abdul Fattah Younis: Gaddafi won't leave. He may commit suicide or will be killed. I didn't wish for him to face such an end.

Abdul Fattah Younis: From my knowledge of Gaddafi, he won't leave, he will stay to the end, but he will stay alone. #Libya

Abdul Fattah Younis: Who will aid him? Everyone has abandoned him. The Eastern & Central Provinces have abandoned him #Libya

Abdul Fattah Younis: I have not met any of the mercenaries, I heard that some of them exist though. There are 500,000 Africans in #Libya

Abdul Fattah Younis: I won't be surprised if Gaddafi used mercenaries against the people #Libya

Abdul Fattah Younis: To Gaddafi I tell him: Please end your life by praying for the martyrs, ask for God's forgiveness & the people's #Libya

Abdul Fattah Younis: To Libyan people, you are a brave people, stand courageously, Libya will become a strong country. #Libya

Abdul Fattah Younis: What I know is that the Free Officers of #Libya have stopped their support of Gaddafi, his Security Battalion remain

Abdul Fattah Younis: Stand courageously, people of #Libya, & those in Tripoli & Zawya & all over the country.

7. Global capitalism is the reason western governments are quiet.
It's a race to get the money, and under the excuse that if they do not sell this mad dog arms, someone else will (in other words, THEY will outcompete OUR corporations). They are going to do business with anyone in charge, damn the concequences. There are no moral concerns to take what so ever, and now governments are just covering their asses, shaking their heads while making a serious face.

It's the job of the people to be the concience of their governments, by petitioning governments, protesting and boycotting. But the fact is that most people just don't want to know. If they do, they think it's uncomfortable, so in order to not be confronted with awful reality, they choose to remain ignorant.

I have experience with this personally, i've had friends react to what i tell them in a negative way, not because they think i am wrong or that i am lying, but because they are confronted with a reality they find uncomfortable and they get angry with me for telling them. They would much rather just to go work in whatever company they work for and not know, because if they don't know they don't have to care.

Now.. i have to get back to this stupid research paper i am writing (this was procrastination).

I can see myself getting a lot of mileage out of that one. So often I've found myself up against that same kind of denial--the "see no evil" syndrome, or whatever you want to call it.

16. Libya: Celebrations in opposition-controlled east
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-12546806

The BBC's Jon Leyne is one of the first foreign journalists to enter Libya since the anti-government protests erupted last week. He reports from the east of the country, where the military has largely abadoned Col Muammar Gaddafi.

We arrived in Libya through a border post now completely controlled by the opposition.

There were delirious celebrations there over the fact that they had vanquished Col Gaddafi's forces and Col Gaddafi's government.

There are no government officials at the border, the minimum of formalities. They are flying a new flag; there is a picture of Muammar Gaddafi crossed out.

The cartridge you had pictured in http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=439x481899#482232

probably was from a 14.5mm AA gun, thought the necking seems a bit short. Libya has plenty of these:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KPV_heavy_machine_gun

and here's a picture of the cartridge, from Afganistan
http://www.flickr.com/photos/denial01/4228601546/#/

There mounted on armoured vehicles and APCs. It's difficult to tell without having it in hand (or having the case measurements and markings sent to you). Even though I mentioned it, 20mm is probably too big and the necking on the case wouldn't be right. (20mm is a bit bigger than a dime, about the diameter of your pinkie finger).

We can be sure that the person who picked it up thought it unusual enough to do so - and the 12.5mm are probably gruesomely common.

We had a thread last night about reported the use Shilkas against civilians:#73
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=439&topic_id=474479&mesg_id=476884

Use of those would be entirely consistent with the photos you posted in the last thread.

42. Reading the article on Saif Gaddafi, this jumped off the screen at me:
Edited on Tue Feb-22-11 04:20 PM by Raksha
Six months after arriving in the UK, and with US-led forces about to invade Iraq, he is said to have approached MI6 to inform the agency that his father's regime was prepared to abandon its nuclear weapons programme. The contact led to negotiations between Libya, Britain and the US which saw the programme dismantled, and the Gaddafi regime begin to be allowed in from the cold.

I can't be the only one thanking everything that's holy that Saif's psychopathic father doesn't have NUKES at his disposal right now!!!

69. And the U.S. , according to the Wikileaks documents
was recently negotiating Nuclear Power for Libya along with 'other weapons' which Qaddafi had requested.

It is DISGUSTING what we are finding out and how our government is complicit in these horrific crimes.

Britain too, where Said just bought a 10 million dollar home and was friends with Prince Andrew.

People think the Brits are civilized, at least there they do, but there was no more brutal Colonialist Empire than the British Empire and from all I'm learning, their upper elites have not changed their ways much, just trying to put a more respectable face on it.

These events should bring about a sea change in the Western Powers IF the people demand it now.

We KNOW what our governments are complicit in. There are no more excuses.

The Iraq and Afghanistans wars are massive war crimes perpetrated against innocent people and AS Brutal, no much more so, than anything Qaddafi is doing right now.

They are silent, these Western Powers, and the UN, because HE IS THEIR BUSINESS PARTNER and they stand to lose billions of dollars, maybe trillions of dollars in business deals they had with him, and Oil deals etc.

Giving Qaddafi nuclear power seems to me to be insane, but he had them by their greedy balls because THEY wanted to do business in Libya.

Shameful! Shameful! I am without words anymore ~

EU eyes Libya sanctions - claims that Italy, Malta are only objectors denied

Malta this evening denied reports in Brussels that it and Italy are the only two countries objecting to the imposition of sanctions against Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.

AFP news agency reported this evening that European nations are discussing sanctions against the Libyan leader but have run against objections from some EU states, notably Italy and Malta.

Several European Union countries, notably Germany and Finland, called for sanctions against Gaddafi at talks in Brussels between foreign ministers of the 27-nation bloc, AFP quoted diplomats as saying.
But a spokesman for the Maltese foreign ministry denied the report.

"Twenty-five countries are objecting and only two are in favour of sanctions," the spokesman said.

Thousands in Tahrir demand Egypt's government to fall
Heba Afify
Tue, 22/02/2011 - 19:32

Around 4000 Egyptians protested in Tahrir Square today pressing for the remaining demands of the revolution.

The protesters said that they will not be satisfied with cabinet reshuffling and demanded to change the entire cabinet, starting with Prime Minister Ahmed Shafiq, and replace it with a government of experts. They also demanded an end to the state of emergency, the dismantlement of the state’s security apparatus, and the release of all political prisoners.

The state security body within the Ministry of Interior is known for its use of excessive force against political activists.

Protesters called for prosecuting former officials, including ousted President Hosni Mubarak and people responsible for killing protesters during the 25 January revolution.

70. Good for them, their revolution could be stolen from them
with the help of the U.S., Britain and all the rest of the Western Criminal Governments whose only interests are in their profits.

I was afraid they might get rail-roaded, but it seems they are not about to take their eyes off the ball.

63. CNN International coming in with some hard-hitting reportage now...
Story 1: how this mild unpleasantness in Libya is affecting the world stock markets, and
Story 2: how the kerfuffle in Libya will impact companies doing business there

Yep, that combined with the press conference by the UN Undersecretary for International Hand-Wringing, in which he categorically denied the UN had proof there was any such place as Libya, tells me (as if I needed to be told) that the Libyan people are on their own.

If they're smart, after they win they'll close off the oil wells and bury them in concrete.
