In an unprecedented appearance, former Attorney General Phill Kline on Monday is to go before a state disciplinary panel that handles complaints against lawyers.
In doing so, Kline will become the first statewide public official to face such a complaint before the board, a spokesman for the disciplinary administrator’s office said this past week.
The complaints are tied to Kline's investigation of what he said were late-term abortions performed in Kansas and sexual assaults of underage girls.
In the two-count complaint filed Jan. 14, 2010, the disciplinary administrator's office contends Kline lied to the Kansas Supreme Court, misled a Johnson County grand jury investigating an abortion provider and discussed an ongoing case on "The O'Reilly Factor,” a conservative television show.

Among observers at the hearing will be at least one representative from Operation Rescue, an anti-abortion Christian group headquartered in Wichita.
Cheryl Sullenger, senior policy adviser for Operation Rescue, will watch the hearing and make postings online.
