81. That's a ridiculous statement.
The process that led to the passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act was a subject of intense public interest, scrutiny, and debate that lasted almost a year. The outlines of the debate were known during the 2007 election season. The House bill and each of the 5 senate committee bills that eventually made the final legislation were published in their entirety long before the anything was brought to the floor.

Were you asleep in 2009?

37. I agree with you that this is a war
I disagree with you about Dems being complacent. Not voting for Democratic candidates was a "deliberate" act in November. Those that chose not to vote to punish the Democratic party succeeded in what they aimed for they got Republicans and Teaparty fanatics voted in. Congrats to them they got exactly what they didn't vote for. Every vote counted...

You are right they Repugs are playing for keeps. We have to get the Supreme Court ruling overturned ASAP. That ruling is destroying Democracy and enabling the Koch brothers to destroy our country.(By the way Scalia and Thomas are very good friends with them and they attend their secret meetings). I believe these Scotus members are violating the law by being involved with these guys. rules.

i agree some of teh current crop of dems have outstayed their welcome. But unless they are defeated in the primaries it would still be better for the to be reelected than any GOP. we need all the manpower we can muster to defeat evil. and thats what the GOP is.. I used to thin they were just misguided but Ive come to realize, they are evil.

26. He goes off on Republicans for calling him for a vote at 5, and when he gets there at three minutes
to five he finds out the vote is already in progress. He talks about how he found out there was a budget proposal as he was driving to a meeting with school administrators and heard a commercial on the radio from some business group in Washington saying "Support Walker's budget proposal!" And that REALLY pisses him off. The final minute is him going off because the Republicans aren't acting with any respect toward their constituents, his constituents, or their colleagues. He is one angry badger and it's pretty righteous.

28. More
They also turned of some dem mikes. What's also unique is how everything I read so far leaves out what he heard on the radio

– Assembly Democrats were in an uproar as the Assembly Republicans took up Walker's radical proposal before the planned hour of 5:00 pm. Assembly Democrats had received an e-mail that session would start at 5:00 pm. However, Republican leadership started the vote early at 4:57, before democratic members were able to make their way through the thousands of people rallying and get to the assembly floor.

At 4:56 Rep. Gordon Hintz (D-Oshkosh) ran into the Assembly Chamber to raise a point of order. He was closely followed by Assembly Minority Leader Peter Barca and other democratic members.

"This is not how we do things in Wisconsin; this is a sham of democracy and an abuse of the system", said Rep. Hintz. "The public deserves better treatment. I as a legislator deserve better treatment. You can't play these games with people's rights and expect to get away with it", said Rep. Hintz. "

After tense moments, Republicans agreed to go back to the amendable stage of the bill and then adjourned until Tuesday to thunderous applause of the Democratic members and the public.

30. Heres some more context and read my link above too.
http://www.dane101.com/current/2011/02/19/watch_assembly_republicans_vote_five_minutes_before_scheduled_session

Minority Leader Peter Barca gave an impassioned speech and called the move "unprecedented" and "illegal." He said "I know you are just so eager to tramp on peoples' and workers' rights, you can't just wait, can you?" Barca called for the vote to be struck.

Fitzgerald had the Assembly to stand informal while he consulted with his Republican colleagues.

At 5:07 p.m. Barca asked the chair to clarify at what time the voice vote occurred. After two minutes Braca returned to the floor and pointed out that Amendments two and three were bypassed without a vote, which is against Assembly rules.

Braca held up the rules of order and said: "If any of you have a shred of decency you will not let these people up here to allow you to ignore these rules. You took an oath of office. I don't know if you took it seriously or that you think that now that we have a Governor who wants to be a Government-of-One you can do whatever you like. Well, you can't, you absolutely can't. We have two other amendments before us that you did not take up. Did not take up. Never ever in the history of this body has that happened. I doubt it's ever happened in any body. Honest to God, what is wrong with you? Are you really that eager to shut down this process, to strip people of their basic worker rights that you're willing to do anything?"

52. More Context (with video)
I talked to Rep. Hintz an hour ealier in his office. I took this testimonial from him to YOU! <http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N41Ar0IHhM4>

Republicans tried to rush passage before Dems broke caucus and showed up at 5pm, the time they were notified by the Speaker. THIS is why the Senate Dems are not in Madison!!

The oddity is the Republicans DID pass the bill, but rescinded passage after the Assembly Dem went nuclear, Hintz being the high point. There was some who thought the Republicans might have BROKEN THE LAW. They thus unanimously rescinded the vote. All technical parliamentary moves and from what I heard from Capitol staffers most reporters were confused by the rule acrobatics and didn't capture what had done. Bonus, I did see comments on a conservative facebook page where they call their Republicans cowards.

Support the Wisconsin 14!

and bullies. Just gonna sneak that legislation through, huh?

They malevolently disregarded the law, disregarded the oath they took, showed how lowdown they are right out of the gate.

THESE are the kinds of people who steal, cheat and lie to get whatever it is they want. They just showed us that aspect of their character.

And they were duly elected?

57. Now that's what I call a Democratic representative. Outstanding.
And the Dem Assemblymen actually got the thugs to rescind their (possibly illegal) vote.

This is what happens when you stand up to the thugs and bullies. Compromise is not the solution for everything. Capitulation is not the solution for everything. Sometimes you have to stand your ground and tell the other side to back the F up.

64. If it was possible to shame them into doing the right thing...
that would have done it. Sadly, they know no shame, and will continue their evil ways for as long as they can, and anyone who disagrees, be damned.

66. Wow! That was great.
I wish that Obama could talk like that. This guy has some energy.

Do you think he would be willing to run for president? He knows what to talk about and how to talk about it.

I wish I could recommend this a hundred times.

Great post.

68. So who does the Speaker of the House think he's talking to to tell
the gallery they are NOT ALLOWED to voice support or opposition?!?!?!!!!! Hey, Jackoff.....those are YOUR BOSSES up there!!!!! They have RIGHTS (that you haven't repealed yet)....rights to FREE SPEECH......rights to demand accountability from their elected officials.......You, Sir, have NO RIGHT to tell them what they can or can't support or how to support it.!@!!!

Jesus Christ on a crutch these bastards are out of control......megalamania does not even begin to come close to describing them!

This is as outrageous Alexander Haig declaring HE was 'in charge' when Regan got shot....they think they are in charge with no accountability to 'the little people' (and no, I'm not talking leprechauns)

72. Repukes are Authoritarian, they don't like democracy
After all, they have the truth, why bother with democracy? I love how 'elections have consequences' unless democrats are elected, because 'those' must have been stolen elections.

If you want to know what evil they are capable of, then just listen to what they accuse the dems of, for this is a 'projection' of what they are doing. Half the time I think they do it just to poison the well, so that when they are rightly and correctly accused (as opposed to delusionally), the public and media just see it as same ol same ol as opposed to expose.

78. Republicans DO NOT believe in Democracy, and people need to realize this.
Republicans are authoritarians. As Tom DeLay used to say, they want a permanent majority. I think that would be totalitarianism.

88. Here's what happened...
(Found this on reddit)

"So, this may belong more in /r/conspiracy than /r/politics, but I find this a bit strange:
Hintz makes a big impact on youtube, particularly among the protesters and liberals in Wisconsin.
The day after it is put up, two things happen: The video is taken down via copyright claim from "WisconsinEye," and Senator Hintz is arrested for a "sexual misconduct" charge from a few weeks back.
Now, WisconsinEye's board of directors is chaired by Margaret Farrow, ex-Senator (R), close contributor to Walker's campaign, and member of the "Palin Truth Squad." Also on the board is Diane Hendricks, wife of Ken Hendricks, who was disciplined for illegal campaign contributions to Scott McCallum, a republican, in 2001.
So the day after Hintz is made into an icon for the protesters, he is arrested on 3 week old charges, and his video is taken down by major contributors to Walker's campaigns.
Anyone find this a little weird, or am I crazy?"

89. This deserves it's own thread... and no I'm not surprised one little bit.
I saw the article earlier. But you know what, the video speaks for itself regardless.

and I wouldn't doubt that it's based off of a "witness" who said he was there and I don't doubt he was... but that place has been getting a attention for a long time... why now eh?

I'm sure lot's of Businessman have been there.

This is going to come back on them too.
