Alexandria’s Channel 5 headquarters suffered an unprecedented state of confusion after its chief, Ismail Al Sheikha, ordered the evacuation of all employees at once.
The channel’s broadcast was abruptly stopped late Wednesday afternoon and replaced with Egypt’s Channel 1.
A source in Channel 5 confirmed that armored vehicles and tanks surrounded its HQ and soldiers closed all roads leading to it.
The source added that the security apparatus received reliable intelligence indicating that protesters may attempt to take over the channel on Friday.
The channel had stopped broadcasting on 29 January but resumed work in the past 3 days, with its administration issued strict orders not to mention a "people’s revolution" or any of the ongoing related events. This policy appears to have provoked Alexandria’s citizens.

Egypt counts cost of turmoil, protesters undaunted

CAIRO, Feb 9 (Reuters) - Egyptians counted the economic cost of more than two weeks of turmoil on Wednesday as protesters on Cairo's Tahrir Square looked ahead to their next big push to oust President Hosni Mubarak later in the week.
A day after Egyptians staged one of their biggest protests in the capital, Tahrir Square remained crowded although no demonstration had been scheduled.
Protesters said the organisers were working on plans to move on to the state radio and television building on Friday, the day of the next big scheduled demonstration.
"I think people outside will make crowds outside the radio and television ... President Mubarak will fall soon, in three or four days," said Mohamed Sadik, a Cairo engineer.
