4. I never understood this phenomenon. It is one of the main songs you don't want to fuck up.
So, you'd imagine everyone who ever sang the SSB at game or ceremony or whatever would be like "I am going to eat and sleep that simple fucking song until I can't possibly fuck it up."

given it's a pretty difficult song to sing.

Though if she screwed up the lyrics, that's a totally different thing

12. She's one of my faves, but I get tired of people trying to cram in as
many runs as possible. I mentioned that to my best friends and he said he saw somewhere where they were taking bets how long her rendition would last because of her proclivity to do that. :7

the way she did. I expect a certain amount of professionalism from people getting top billing. And yes, I sang in college choir and public choirs into my early thirties. My voice has aged and I KNOW BETTER than to inflict it on someone.

For the record, CA is a great performer. This wasn't her tune. But I've heard many performers over the last season do a very good job with the national anthem, in different vocal styles, different group arrangements. It would have been a great opportunity for a new artist or group.

Why do you care, anyway? CA still has her career and awards.

19. But it's disrespectful to the gods of drinking and
debauchery to mess up the melody of To Anacreon in Heaven

Perhaps they were drunk when they chose to put the lyrics of National Anthem to that tune of the old drinking song written a few hundred years
And long may the sons of Anacreon intwine
"The Myrtle of Venus with Bacchus's Vine.

Now it is bombs and war, loverly.

There are so many better songs that could be the national anthem that have tunes people can carry and words not about war.

28. No slack from me. I have know the lyrics since grade school.
And if I were supposed to sing it for the SB, I would certainly make sure I had it down.

And yes, it is an impossible song for most of us to sing. But I have heard great singers who can do it well.

Those guys are/were superb musicians with solid abilities and great ears for tone. I like much of their acoustic work, little of the rest of their stuff, and the albums they made for children the best.

42. as I posted elsewhere
This is by far the best version I have heard at a sporting event. For the record Robert Goulet screwed up the national anthem so badly once that he refused to do it ever again. This version was done by the combined choirs of the US Military Academy at West Point, the Coast Guard Academy, the US Air Force Academy, the US Naval Academy and the US Army Herald Trumpets.
